New Regulations are now in.

🐶 New Animal Welfare (Dogs) Regulations 2026 are now in place across Tasmania.

The new Regulations introduce updated welfare standards to help make sure dogs are healthy, safe and well cared for throughout their lives.

The new rules provide clearer guidance for dog owners, breeders and businesses. These changes reflect feedback from the Tasmanian community during the Dog Welfare Review.

Key updates include:
✅ Better standards for housing and shelter
✅ Clearer requirements for exercise, care and wellbeing
✅ Stronger breeding welfare standards
✅ Updated health and veterinary care requirements
✅ New rules for transport, handling and some training practices

For most dog owners, these changes reflect practices they are already following as part of responsible dog ownership.

That's a wrap for 2026 Junior Handlers of Tasmania State Final,
a big shout out to all the juniors for their fabulous efforts, you above all make the day! WELL DONE!!

And a heartfelt thanks to Sonja Gangell and Alicia Adamopolous for stepping in and stewarding and being trophy steward, many thanks.

And the most important thankyou to our judge Mrs Mellissa Grant (NSW), whom herself has been a junior handler and represented her home state of Queensland twice and was also a National Runner-up.

***HAPPY TAIL***

A huge amount of worry and stress for these babies occurred on Sunday,fotunately with a happy ending. I will include the information of how this all unfolded. We are so glad for your family. From the TLPR team 🧡🧡

A vehicle was stolen from a dog event at Churchill Park, all 3 dogs in crates, boot and doors open, owner and many other people within 10 metres as it all unfolded. The response from police and the wider community was absolutely incredible. We had cars everywhere, people from all walks of life searching, sharing and phoning us with updates. This person drove hundreds of kms all around the North East of Tasmania. We located the older 2 dogs first following a sighting on Retreat Road and this gorgeous girl who lives nearby and seen it on social media jumped in the car in her pjs to go look until we could arrive with food and reinforcements. They had been thrown from the vehicle into the bushes in their crates, along with many of their belongings. No sight of baby Mia. Police had spiked the vehicle in the Northern Suburbs and confirmed Mia’s crate was still in it but she was gone. In an absolutely wild turn of events we were able to locate the people who were caring for Mia via a post in the Worst Drivers of Tasmania group complaining about a fellow dog mum!! It was a true miracle, Mia had spent her whole afternoon with a gorgeous young family from Rocherlea who took her in from a kid off the street, put a jacket on her and kept her safe and happy playing with their own pup. We believe he had actually dumped her shortly after obtaining the vehicle before heading out of town. Police have taken the vehicle for processing and from what we know the only damage is to the tyres. It has been the best possible outcome to a truly horrible afternoon/evening and we are so thankful for every person who shared, commented, searched, etc. The pups are back where they belong and that is what truly matters the most. 🫶🏻
