PRIVATE REHOMING – ERMINGTON, SYDNEY. SEBASTIAN AND VIOLA- a bonded brother and sister, (3yrs 4 months old) both desexed and microchipped, approximately four years old, and they have been together their whole lives. We adopted them from a shelter when they were already adults, roughly 10 months old, and they quickly became a very important part of our family. They are my first babies, so the thought of rehoming them is absolutely heartbreaking. However, our circumstances have changed significantly since having our first child.
They are both incredibly gentle and tolerant cats. Our son can be quite unpredictable around them, as toddlers are, and they have never shown aggression towards him or anyone else. If they are uncomfortable, they simply walk away or find somewhere quiet. They do, however, enjoy having their own space and can take a little while to warm up to new people. Once they trust you, they are very loving and affectionate. The two of them are very bonded, so we would only consider rehoming them together. They are a beautiful pair and I would not want to separate them.
There is also something important I want to be completely transparent about. Our male cat, Sebastian, has been experiencing stress for some time, which has resulted in him urinating outside the litter tray. We treated and supported him accordingly, and the issue has been resolved. We have also been through a number of changes over the last few years, which may have contributed to his stress.
Our family is also likely to move overseas for approximately the next five years. Because we adopted these two from a shelter, we feel strongly that if they need to be rehomed, we want to do everything possible to find them a stable, loving and permanent home rather than putting them through another major upheaval.
We have considered taking them overseas with us, but we are particularly concerned about the impact this could have on Sebastian given his history of stress. The flights, moving between countries, quarantine requirements and eventually returning to Australia could be incredibly stressful for him, particularly when he is older. We also don’t feel that finding a foster home for such a long period would be fair, as five years would be an enormous amount of time and essentially another lifetime for them. This is why I am reaching out now, even though our move is not immediate. I don’t want to wait until we are under pressure and have to make a rushed decision. I would much rather start looking for the right solution now and take the time to find people who genuinely understand them, can give them the time and space they need, and will love them for the rest of their lives. I know rehoming them may be the right decision for them, but that doesn’t make it any less painful for us. They are not unwanted, and we are not giving them up because we don’t love them. Quite the opposite — I am trying to make what I believe is the most responsible decision for them, even though it breaks my heart.
I am very happy to provide photos, veterinary records, more information about their personalities and routines, and answer any questions you may have. Please ring me if you would like to meet this beautiful couple: Martina 0493336905.
