We have been looking after our patients as Coast and Valleys Veterinary Hospital for the last 6 years, but Keith has been looking after Central Coast Patients since 1988! We outgrew our lovely cottage at The Old Milk Factory and in July opened our new purpose built Hospital facility in Alison. We are all very happy to be working in a 1st class facility where we can provide our same high standard o

f care for your animals, with a lot more room and improved facilities. Apart from all the surgeries we've already been doing; Ovariohysterectomies, Castrations, Orthopaedics, Abdominal Surgery, Trauma Surgery, our new place has expanded surgical facilities and has allowed us to bring in an outside specialist for more involved procedures, like our first Hip Replacement surgery last week! But, most importantly, even in our big new place, our staff will always care for your pet just like it's their own! We hope you enjoy being here as much as we do!

Last week we said goodbye to Dr Victor as he moves over to the UK to work.

Over the last 3 years, Victor has been an integral part of our team; his professionalism and care has made him a favourite of many of our clients and patients.

Victor started with us as a graduate fresh out of university and the team have loved working with him and being a part of his journey.

We'll miss having Victor as part of our team, but wish him all the best going forward.

Yesterday our team made the incredibly difficult decision to say goodbye to our clinic cat Gus. Unfortunately, his arthritis had got to the point where we couldn't keep him happy and comfortable.

Gus was our longest serving team member having made the clinic his home back in 2011 when we were in the old Milk Factory cottage; he was already an adult cat when he decided to grace us with his presence.

Some clients may remember Gus greeting everyone at the front door of the old clinic, or even on the front walkway. He had an amazing ability to know which patients he could approach and which needed a bit of space.

When we moved to the new clinic in 2017, Gus adjusted quickly and seemed to love having the extra space. As the clinic got busier, we had to minimise the time he spent out in reception, but he remained a constant source of amusement, company and comfort out the back for our team and we will be forever grateful he chose Coast and Valleys.

We'll miss you Gussy.

Winter can be tough on our senior pets, but a few simple changes can make a big difference in keeping them comfortable and happy. 🐾

❄️ Keep them warm and comfortable with soft bedding and cosy spots away from drafts.

❄️ Gentle daily movement helps maintain mobility — think short walks or light play suited to their pace.

❄️ Support stiff joints with easy home access (like non-slip flooring), and keep an eye on their weight, as extra kilos can add strain.

❄️ Make sure they’re drinking enough water, even in cooler weather.

❄️ Don’t skip regular health checks — early detection is key to keeping them feeling their best. 💛

Veterinary medicine isn’t always predictable.

Behind a closed consult door might be a family hearing difficult news.

In theatre, there might be a patient fighting a little harder than expected.

On a treatment table might be a pet who simply needs more comfort before we can continue.

We don’t rush those moments. We can’t.

If we’re running behind, it’s never because we don’t value your time. It’s because a pet needs us, and we give everything we can, always!

Thank you for your patience, your kindness, and your understanding.

Everyday, we give our patients the time and care they need. 🤍

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in pets.

They’re experts at hiding pain, so problems can go unnoticed until they’re serious.

Watch for signs like:
💙 Bad breath
💙 Red or bleeding gums
💙 Yellow/brown tartar
💙 Drooling or pawing at the mouth
💙 Trouble eating or chewing
💙 Loose or missing teeth

If this sounds familiar, don’t wait — a quick check can make a big difference. 🐾
