We would like to say a very special thank you to everyone who put their hard earned money into the donations box 🐾

Your generosity has made a real difference.

We are so grateful to announce that , and will each receive $351, with an additional 20L fuel coupon going to . ❤️

We also raised $152 through the calendar bidding for the original artworks by some of Zimbabwe’s wonderful artists. This amount is being shared equally with , giving them $38 to put towards their important work. 🎨🐾

It may seem like a little in the bigger picture, but every single dollar is deeply appreciated. Every donation represents someone choosing to care. Every calendar bought, every painting purchased and every dollar given helps provide food, shelter, care, fuel and hope to animals who desperately need it.

🚨 A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM THE WAG ZONE 🚨

We owe you an apology. 🐾

We apologise for:

🐶 Your dog having the best time ever and refusing to go home.

😴 Making your dog so exhausted that they come home, eat dinner and immediately fall asleep.

🚗 Your dog learning the route to The Wag Zone so well that they start crying, barking and howling before you’ve even reached the entrance.

🐾 The sudden excitement when they hear the words “Wag Zone”.

😂 Having to explain to your dog that unfortunately, you cannot live at the park.

💚 And most importantly… we apologise for creating a place where dogs can simply be dogs — running, playing, sniffing, socialising and having the time of their lives.

We’re sorry.

But not that sorry. 😉

👅🐾 Did you know? A black tongue isn't just for Chow Chows!

When people see a dog with a black or blue-black tongue, they often assume it's a Chow Chow—but several breeds can have dark pigmentation on their tongues, including the Shar-Pei, and even mixed-breed dogs can have black spots or patches on their tongues.

These dark areas are simply caused by extra pigment (melanin), much like freckles or birthmarks in people. They're completely normal and usually nothing to worry about!

🌟 A fascinating true story: During the Korean War, U.S. soldiers and aid workers often came across homeless dogs. One dog with a distinctive blue-black tongue was mistaken for an ordinary mixed breed until a veterinarian recognised it as a Chow Chow mix. The dog was adopted by a military family and eventually travelled thousands of miles to the United States, where its unusual tongue became the clue that uncovered its heritage and sparked interest in rescuing more Korean street dogs.

Today, rescue organisations sometimes use tongue pigmentation as one small clue when guessing a dog's ancestry—but DNA testing has shown that a black-spotted tongue alone doesn't mean a dog has Chow Chow in its family tree. Many mixed breeds have dark tongues with no Chow ancestry at all!

🐾💥 Why do dogs kick the ground after they've done their business?

Most people think they're trying to cover it up... but they're actually doing the opposite!

When your dog scratches the ground with their back legs, they're leaving behind a message for other dogs. Their paws contain special scent glands that release pheromones, and the dramatic kicking spreads both their scent and a visual clue that says:

"I was here!"

It's a bit like posting on social media—but for dogs! 🐶📱

🌿 A fascinating true story: Wildlife researchers studying wolves in places like Yellowstone National Park have observed this same behaviour. Wolves often ground-scratch at the edges of their territories, creating scent posts that help other packs know where one territory ends and another begins. This helps reduce unnecessary confrontations and can even prevent dangerous fights between packs.

Our pet dogs have inherited this ancient instinct from their wild ancestors—even if they're only marking the corner of your local park! 🐾

So next time your dog enthusiastically kicks up grass (or accidentally sprays you with dirt!), remember they're not being naughty—they're simply leaving their calling card for the next dog to discover.

🤍🖤 Did you know? Not all Dalmatians can hear perfectly.

Those beautiful black (or liver) spots come with an interesting genetic story.

Dalmatians carry what's known as the piebald gene, the gene responsible for their striking white coat and distinctive spots. Unfortunately, this same gene can sometimes affect the tiny pigment-producing cells inside the inner ear that are essential for normal hearing.

🐶 Around 15–30% of Dalmatians are born with hearing loss in one or both ears:
🔹 Some are deaf in one ear but hear normally with the other.
🔹 A smaller number are completely deaf.

Responsible breeders help reduce this by having puppies BAER tested (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response test), which is the only reliable way to check a puppy's hearing before they go to their new homes.

❤️ Deaf dogs can still live happy, fulfilling lives! With patience, positive training, hand signals, and a safe environment, they can make wonderful companions.

Every Dalmatian is unique—and whether they hear with two ears, one ear, or not at all, they deserve love, understanding, and responsible care.

🐾👃 Did you know that your dog's nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint?

No two dogs have exactly the same pattern of ridges and creases on their noses! In fact, canine nose prints are so distinctive that they have been used as a form of identification for many years.

🐕 A fascinating real-life example comes from Canada, where the Canadian Kennel Club once accepted nose prints as an official means of identifying purebred dogs. Breeders would carefully ink a dog's nose and record the print, much like taking a fingerprint.

🐾 Meet the Gentle Greyhound! 🐾

Did you know that despite being one of the fastest dog breeds in the world, Greyhounds are actually famous for being calm, gentle, and incredibly affectionate? ❤️

🏃 They can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h (45 mph) in just a few strides, but once they're home, they're true "45 mph couch potatoes!" 🛋️
