What a fantastic day at the KUSA Working Trials Competition!

We are incredibly proud of all three of our Witbank K9 Club teams who stepped onto the field and gave it their all against strong competition.

🥇 Air and Michelle secured 1st place in Companion Dog in Working Trails.
🥇Air and Michelle a 3rd in Tracker Dog 1 in Working trails.
🥈 Grace and Michelle earned a 2nd place in Companion Dog Working Trials

A special mention also goes to our third team. Ncheve and Luisinda, While they didn't place on the day, they showed tremendous determination and teamwork throughout the competition. Their dog worked beautifully despite challenging distractions, including a helicopter passing nearby, a 🐁 mouse and demonstrated the confidence and training that make us proud.

Competitions are about far more than rosettes—they are about learning, growing, and stepping up to the challenge. Every team that enters the field is a winner for putting in the hard work and representing the club with dedication and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all our handlers and dogs. We are proud of every one of you! 🐾🏆

🐾🏆 Congratulations to Air! 🏆🐾

A huge congratulations to Air for achieving 1st Place in Companion Dog, with qualification in Working Trials!

Companion Dog Working Trials tests a dog's obedience, control, agility, and scenting ability through a variety of exercises, including:

✅ Heelwork on and off lead
✅ Recall
✅ Retrieve
✅ Stay exercises 10 min out of sight
✅ 15-metre Send Away
✅ Agility obstacles, including jumps, A-frame and long jump
✅ Scent Discrimination – finding a hidden article that was scented by the handler one minute before the judge hides it within the designated search area

To achieve 1st place requires excellent teamwork, focus, accuracy, confidence, and trust between dog and handler.

Well done Air and handler on this outstanding achievement. We are incredibly proud of you both! 🎉🐾👏

🐾 What is Working Trials (Classic)? 🐾

Working Trials (Classic) is one of the oldest and most challenging dog sports recognized by KUSA. It is designed to test the all-round working ability of a dog and handler team through five key disciplines:

✅ Obedience – Demonstrating precision, control, and teamwork through a variety of exercises.

✅ Send Away & Direction Control – Testing the dog's ability to work independently at a distance, responding accurately to directional commands from the handler.

✅ Agility – Obstacles such as jumps and an A-frame that assess confidence, athleticism, and willingness to work.

✅ Nosework – Search exercises that showcase the dog's exceptional scenting ability and determination.

✅ Tracking – Following a human scent trail and locating articles along the track, demonstrating the dog's natural tracking instincts and concentration.

Working Trials rewards not only a dog's natural abilities but also the partnership, trust, and dedication between dog and handler. Every point earned reflects countless hours of training and teamwork.

Congratulations to Sniper on passing his IGP SPR1! 🏆🐾

The SPR1 is the first-level protection title in the sport of IGP. Unlike a full IGP title, which includes tracking, obedience, and protection, the SPr1 focuses solely on the protection phase.

To earn this title, a dog must demonstrate courage, confidence, strong working ability, controlled guarding and barking, quality grips, and, most importantly, obedience and control under pressure.

Sniper's achievement reflects the teamwork, dedication, and training between dog and handler required to succeed in this demanding discipline.

Well done to Sniper and his handler on this fantastic accomplishment! 👏🐕💪
