⛈️☀️ KEEPING PETS SAFE DURING STORMS AND SUMMER HEAT! 🐾

Summer brings scorching temperatures, thunderstorms and unexpected weather changes. While we can prepare ourselves, our animals depend on US to keep them safe!

At the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA, we urge pet owners to take extra precautions during the summer months.

☀️ PROTECT YOUR PETS FROM EXTREME HEAT

🐾 Provide shade: Animals must have access to adequate shelter and shade throughout the day.

💧 Fresh water: Ensure clean, cool drinking water is always available. Check water bowls regularly.

🚗 NEVER leave animals in vehicles: Temperatures inside parked vehicles can become deadly within minutes, even with windows slightly open.

🐕 Avoid hot surfaces: Walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening. Hot tar can severely burn their paws.

⚠️ Recognise heatstroke: Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting or collapse require immediate veterinary attention.

Heatstroke can kill. Never ignore the warning signs!

⛈️ KEEPING ANIMALS SAFE DURING THUNDERSTORMS

🐶 Bring pets indoors: Loud thunder and lightning can cause extreme fear and panic.

🏠 Create a safe space: Provide a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can hide and feel secure.

🔒 Secure your property: Frightened animals may escape through gates, fences or open doors.

🐱 Keep identification updated: Ensure pets are microchipped and their contact details are current.

❤️ Comfort frightened animals: Remain calm and reassure them. Never punish an animal for being afraid.

⚠️ A WARNING ABOUT CHAINED ANIMALS!

Animals left chained outside during extreme heat or thunderstorms cannot escape dangerous conditions.

A chain is NOT a substitute for proper shelter, safety or responsible ownership!

🐾 RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP SAVES LIVES!

Before leaving home, ask yourself:

Does my animal have adequate shelter, fresh water and protection from changing weather conditions?

If the answer is NO, make the necessary arrangements.

The Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA is preparing for our upcoming Charity Golf Day on Friday, 13 November 2026, at Heron Banks Golf Course, and we're appealing to our community for assistance.

𝗪𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗭𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗦!

We're looking for generous businesses, suppliers and individuals who would be willing to donate prizes for our golfers and supporters.

WE HAVE THE BEST NEWS… THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER! 🥹❤️
Remember Benji (S3)?

Our beautiful boy who spent more than two months waiting behind kennel bars, watching other dogs leave with their new families while he continued to be overlooked?

The same Benji whose once-bright spark was slowly beginning to fade as the weeks went by?

WELL… BENJI HAS FINALLY FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME! 🎉🐶💙

And the best part? He went home with his new mom from the Prinsloo family! 🏡❤️

Just recently, we shared the heartbreaking story of Benji and Ollie. Two wonderful dogs who had been waiting far too long. Ollie was becoming stressed, and Benji was slowly losing that special spark that made him who he was.

We asked you to share their stories. We begged someone to give them a chance.

First, we celebrated Ollie's adoption. And now, we get to share the news we've been hoping and praying for…

🚨 REPORTING ANIMAL CRUELTY: WHAT INFORMATION HELPS OUR INSPECTORS?

You could be the difference between an animal suffering in silence and receiving the help it desperately needs!

Our SPCA Inspectors investigate complaints of animal cruelty and neglect daily. But to act quickly and effectively, we need accurate information from YOU.

📍 1. EXACT LOCATION
Provide the street address, house number, suburb and nearby landmarks. A Google Maps location is also helpful.

🐕 2. DETAILS OF THE ANIMAL
How many animals are involved? What species, colour and approximate size are they? Describe their condition.

⚠️ 3. WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Explain exactly what you witnessed. Is the animal being beaten, starved, abandoned, denied shelter or veterinary treatment?

Stick to the facts. Avoid assumptions!

📸 4. PHOTOGRAPHS OR VIDEOS
Photographs and videos can provide valuable evidence. However, never trespass or put yourself in danger to obtain them.

🕒 5. WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?
Provide the date and time. Is the cruelty ongoing? Is the animal in immediate danger?

📞 6. YOUR CONTACT DETAILS
Provide your name and contact number in case our Inspectors need additional information.

Your identity will be treated confidentially.

🐾 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU REPORT?
Our Inspectors assess complaints and prioritise investigations according to urgency.

Depending on the circumstances, they may issue warnings, require corrective action, conduct follow-up inspections or take legal action.

Not every investigation results in an animal being removed. Our priority is to prevent suffering and ensure compliance with animal protection legislation.
