We serve, protect and care for all animals. The Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA is a member of the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA).

The Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging SPCAs have amalgamated in July 2015 and are fully operational under a single Management Committee. This positive step was taken at Special General Meetings. The Board of the National Council of SPCAs has expressed support for the venture. The decision was taken to maximise the use of resources and opportunities. It will be beneficial to both the SPCAs who previou

sly operated independently: - but above all it is and will be highly advantageous to the animals in the area. The message to the public is that unity is strength and the future will be a positive one in terms of assisting animals. The Society is now called the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA.

🎉🐾 HAPPY ADOPTION – NALA! 🐾🎉

Some adoptions are special. This one is extra special. ❤️

Our beautiful Nala (S1) has officially found her forever home with the Wilde family - and we honestly couldn't have wished for a better home for this sweet girl. 🏡🐶

You may remember Nala as our 7–8-year-old girl with the BIGGEST heart, who would cry for attention because all she wanted was to be loved. Well, Nala doesn't have to cry for love anymore. She has found it.

Her new mom, Yvette Wilde, is no stranger to the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA. Yvette is a former Chairperson of our SPCA and someone who has dedicated an incredible part of her life to animal welfare. Even today, that dedication continues, with Yvette spending her time helping to sterilise animals and prevent unwanted litters.

Of all the homes Nala could have found, knowing that she is going home with someone who has spent so much of her life fighting for animals makes this happy ending incredibly meaningful to us.

Nala came to us needing love, attention and dental care. Now she has something even better: a family who will make sure she never has to wonder whether she is loved again.

Thank you, Yvette and the Wilde family, for once again opening your hearts to an animal in need.

Nala, you truly hit the jackpot, beautiful girl. Enjoy every cuddle. You deserve them all. 🥹🐾💙

Losing a pet can be distressing, but acting quickly can greatly improve the chances of being reunited.

If your dog or cat goes missing, don't wait. The sooner you begin searching, the more likely you are to find your pet safely.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆

Most pets remain close to home when they first go missing. Walk or drive through your neighbourhood, call your pet by name, and ask neighbours if they have seen anything.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗷𝗹𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗣𝗖𝗔

If someone has found your pet, they may have reported it or brought it to the SPCA.

When contacting us, have the following information available:

- A recent photograph.
- The breed, colour and approximate size.
- The area where your pet went missing.
- Any distinguishing features, such as a collar or unique markings.

𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱

Share a recent photograph of your pet on local community and lost-and-found social media groups. Include the date, the area where your pet disappeared, and your contact details.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀

Members of the public often take found animals to nearby veterinary practices to be scanned for a microchip or treated if they are injured. It is worthwhile notifying the practices in your area that your pet is missing.

𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲

Many missing pets are reunited with their owners days or even weeks after disappearing. Continue checking with the SPCA, local veterinarians and community groups regularly.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The simplest way to improve the chances of being reunited with a lost pet is to ensure your pet can be identified.

Have your pet microchipped, keep your contact details up to date, and make sure your dog or cat wears a collar with an identification tag whenever possible.

If your pet goes missing, the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA will do everything we can to help bring them home safely.

Providing nutritious food is one of our biggest daily expenses, but it is also one of the most important. A healthy meal helps rescued animals recover, regain their strength, and prepare for the day they find loving homes.

𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭

Animals cannot tell us when they are suffering, but they often show us through their condition and behaviour.

Recognising the signs of neglect early can make the difference between an animal continuing to suffer and receiving the help it needs.

Here are five common signs to look out for:

1. Poor Body Condition

If an animal's ribs, spine or hip bones are clearly visible, or the animal appears weak and underweight, it may not be receiving enough food or proper care.

2. No Access to Clean Water or Suitable Shelter

Every animal needs fresh drinking water every day and protection from the weather. Animals left without shade in summer, shelter in winter, or clean water may be suffering unnecessarily.

3. Untreated Injuries or Illness

Open wounds, severe skin conditions, limping, heavy parasite infestations, persistent coughing, discharge from the eyes or nose, or obvious pain should never be ignored.

4. Living in Unsanitary Conditions

An area heavily contaminated with faeces, urine, rubbish or hazardous objects can seriously affect an animal's health and wellbeing.

5. Signs of Distress or Fear

Animals that appear extremely frightened, withdrawn, aggressive through fear, or are constantly tied up without proper care may be experiencing neglect or poor welfare.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼?

If you believe an animal may be suffering, don't ignore it.

Report your concerns to the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA as soon as possible. Even if you are unsure, it is always better to report your concerns so that they can be assessed.

𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗣𝗖𝗔 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿

When most people think of the SPCA, they think of rescued cats and dogs waiting for loving homes. But before many of those animals arrive safely at our SPCA, there is an SPCA Inspector working behind the scenes.

No two days are ever the same.

An Inspector's day can begin with a report of an injured animal, followed by a cruelty investigation, checking on the welfare of neglected animals, educating pet owners, assisting the South African Police Service with an animal-related matter, and ending with an emergency rescue long after normal office hours.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆

Our Inspectors respond to a wide range of complaints, including:

- Animal cruelty and neglect.
- Injured or distressed animals.
- Animals without adequate food, water or shelter.
- Abandonment.
- Welfare concerns involving livestock and other animals.

Every complaint is assessed and investigated in accordance with the Animals Protection Act and other applicable legislation.

𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩

Many cases are resolved through education and guidance.

Where owners are willing to cooperate, Inspectors work with them to improve the welfare of their animals by providing advice, issuing welfare notices where necessary, and conducting follow-up inspections to ensure compliance.

Our goal is always to improve the lives of animals wherever possible.

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙

Where serious cruelty or neglect is found, SPCA Inspectors have legal powers under the Animals Protection Act. These powers may include:

- Opening criminal cases.
- Seizing animals when permitted by law.
- Applying for warrants where required.
- Arresting offenders in specific circumstances provided for in the legislation.

Every decision is made in accordance with the law and with the welfare of the animal as the highest priority.

𝘼 𝙟𝙤𝙗 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣

Being an SPCA Inspector is not an ordinary job. It requires dedication, resilience and compassion.

Our Inspectors witness both the worst and the best of humanity every day. While they often see heartbreaking cases of neglect and cruelty, they also experience the joy of seeing rescued animals recover and begin new lives with loving families.
The work is demanding, but every animal helped makes it worthwhile.

🐾 Meet Mischief! 🐱💙

Mischief (G2) is an adorable 5–6-month-old boy with a beautiful personality, a cuddly nature… and a very important job: making sure you never walk anywhere without him! 😂🐾

This little guy loves affection and happily soaks up cuddles, but he also has plenty to say. Mischief is a vocal little character who isn't afraid to let you know when he wants your attention.

His funniest habit? Playing with your feet while you're trying to walk! Apparently, ankles are toys and every trip across the room is an opportunity for a game. 😹

At just a few months old, Mischief is full of personality, affection and playful kitten energy. He's looking for a family who will enjoy his antics just as much as his cuddles.
