IF YOU WELCOME A DOG OR CAT INTO YOUR LIFE, YOU MAKE A COMMITMENT FOR LIFE!
A dog or cat is not someone you bring home only until life becomes inconvenient. They are living, feeling souls who love, trust, and depend on you to keep them safe.
They scratched your furniture? Repair the furniture, not abandon your companion.
They have behavioural problems? Be patient. Seek professional help. Learn to understand them and give them the guidance they need.
Your circumstances change? Do everything you reasonably can to find a solution that keeps your beloved companion safe.
You have to move? Find a home where your animals are welcome.
Life gets difficult? Remember that your dog or cat is counting on you, even when things aren't easy.
ABANDONING YOUR ANIMAL SHOULD NEVER BE THE EASY WAY OUT!
When you welcome a dog or cat into your life, you become their family. You become their safe place, their comfort, and the person they trust most in the world.
They don't understand financial difficulties, relationship breakdowns, moving house, or unexpected changes in life. They don't understand why their familiar home disappears or why the person they love suddenly leaves them behind.
They simply know that they love you.
Imagine their confusion when they are surrendered to a shelter, handed to strangers, left on the streets, or abandoned somewhere unfamiliar. Imagine the fear of losing everything they have ever known without understanding why.
I've seen these animals with my own eyes. I've seen the fear, stress, and emotional pain that abandonment can cause. Behind every pair of frightened eyes is a living soul who deserves compassion, security, and love.
THEY ARE NOT DISPOSABLE. THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS. THEY ARE FAMILY!
A dog doesn't stop deserving love because they grow old. A cat doesn't become disposable because they scratch the furniture or develop medical needs. Neither should be abandoned because they require patience, veterinary care, or extra attention.
They deserve love when they are playful and when they are quiet. They deserve care when they are healthy and when they are sick. They deserve kindness when they are young, and dignity and comfort when they grow old.
And they deserve a family that understands that love is not something you switch off when life becomes difficult.
Of course, there may be heartbreaking circumstances in which responsible rehoming becomes necessary to protect an animal's welfare. But abandoning them, leaving them to fend for themselves, or treating them as though they can simply be replaced is never acceptable.
DOGS AND CATS HAVE FEELINGS. THEY EXPERIENCE FEAR, STRESS, COMFORT, TRUST, AND ATTACHMENT. THEIR LIVES MATTER!
They cannot stand up and tell the world how much abandonment hurts. They cannot explain their confusion or ask why the people they trusted have disappeared.
They cannot demand better treatment.
THAT IS WHY WE MUST BE THEIR VOICE!
I will speak for them. I will stand up for them. I will continue to advocate for every dog and cat who has been neglected, abandoned, mistreated, or forgotten.
I will never apologise for believing that when you welcome an animal into your home, you accept a responsibility that should never be taken lightly.
Before you bring a dog or cat into your life, please ask yourself:
Am I prepared to love, protect, and care for this animal for the rest of their life, through the beautiful moments and the difficult ones?
If the answer is no, please wait until you are ready.
Because they deserve more than a temporary home. They deserve a family whose love doesn't come with an expiration date.
They give us their trust so freely. They offer companionship, comfort, affection, and love in their own beautiful ways. They depend on us for food, shelter, medical care, safety, and kindness.
WE ARE THEIR WHOLE WORLD. LET'S MAKE SURE WE TREAT THEM LIKE THEY ARE OURS.
A dog or cat is not just for the good times. Not just while they are young and cute. Not just until life becomes complicated.
They are a commitment. A privilege. A precious life entrusted to our care.
Please think carefully before adopting or buying an animal. And if you already have one, remember that to them, you are not just a part of their life. You are their family.
🐾 A DOG OR CAT IS FOR LIFE. LOVE THEM, PROTECT THEM, AND NEVER ABANDON THEM. 🐾
BE THEIR VOICE. BE THEIR SAFE PLACE. BE THE REASON THEY NEVER HAVE TO WONDER WHY THEY WERE LEFT BEHIND.
