❀️🐾 **A HUGE CAT ANGEL THANK YOU TO NISCHAL FROM NKL EXPRESS, ZEERUST!** 🐾❀️

Right, people, today we need to talk about someone who has made this rescue woman's heart very happy and her dogs' tummies VERY happy! πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

Nischal from NKL Express has very generously donated **2 x 40kg bags of Jock dog food** specifically for our dogs who are awaiting their court date.

EIGHTY KILOGRAMS OF FOOD!

Do you know what 80kg of dog food means to a rescue?

It means **YOU BUY IT. THEY EAT IT. WE BREATHE SLIGHTLY EASIER.** πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

Because let's be honest, around here the dogs eat, the cats eat, the vet bills arrive, the electricity bill arrives, something else catches fire (sometimes literally, sometimes financially 🀣), and Jo is somewhere in the middle trying to figure out which bill can wait until tomorrow.

Spoiler alert: they ALL think they're important. πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

BUT WAIT! These bags are for our dogs who are waiting for their day in court.

These babies cannot tell their own stories in court. They cannot explain what happened to them or ask for justice themselves. They rely on us to stand up for them, to keep fighting for them and to make sure they are cared for while their cases work their way through a system that is already carrying an enormous burden of human abuse cases too.

And while all of that happens, these dogs still need to eat.

Every. Single. Day.

Unfortunately, we haven't yet found a supplier who accepts *a case number and a promise of justice* as payment for dog food. πŸ€”πŸ€£

So when someone steps in and donates food specifically for these dogs, it means more than we can ever properly explain.

Every bag of food makes a genuine difference. It frees up money for the next emergency, the next vet bill and the next animal who needs help.

And we all know there's ALWAYS a next animal. They seem to have Jo's number, and apparently the word NO doesn't exist in their vocabulary. πŸ˜‚πŸΎ

**Nischal, THANK YOU. ❀️**
I'm not going to get all mushy and emotional on you.

Well, not TOO mushy. Don't get comfortable. 🀣

But seriously, thank you for thinking of these dogs and helping us care for them while we continue fighting for the justice they deserve.

We appreciate you more than you know, and your donation will make a real difference to these precious souls.

And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting what we do here at Cat Angel Refuge. It isn't always pretty, it certainly isn't always easy, and some days I question my life choices while standing in a kennel with a bucket in one hand and a to-do list longer than the N1. πŸ˜‚

But then people like you remind us that we're not doing this alone.

**THAT is what community looks like. ❀️**

So please join me in thanking Nischal and NKL Express for this wonderful donation!

And Nischal, just a small warning: if the dogs find out who supplied the food, you may have just acquired 80kg worth of very enthusiastic fans. They are not good at personal space, and I cannot guarantee that any of them will respect your clothing. πŸ€£πŸ•πŸΎ

**Compassion with backbone. Full bowls. And still fighting for justice.**

Thank you, Nischal. From Jo, Karen, Luke and all the four-legged hooligans at Cat Angel Refuge, we appreciate you! ❀️❀️❀️

πŸŽ‚πŸΎ **50 FOR 50: DAY 6! WISH NUMBER 6!** πŸΎπŸŽ‚

🐢 **TODAY WE ARE TALKING PUPPIES!** 🐢

Right, Angels! Welcome to Day 6 of my countdown to turning 50 on 29 November.

I have absolutely no idea how we got to Day 6 already. I blinked, there were animals needing help, somebody needed something, the phone rang, and suddenly here we are again. Welcome to rescue life. 🀣

Today we are moving on to **WISH NUMBER 6: 50 TINS OF PUPPY FOOD!** ❀️

Because the big dogs have had their turn. The cats have had theirs. And now it is time for the small, furry, sharp-toothed eating machines who are determined to grow up as quickly as possible.

PUPPIES!

Tiny paws. Big eyes. Ridiculous amounts of cuteness.

And appetites that would make you think they have been fasting for three weeks when they finished eating approximately four minutes ago. πŸ˜‚πŸΎ

❀️ **OUR WISH IS 50 TINS OF PUPPY FOOD.**

And just to make life easier, **we don't mind the brand or the size of the tin!**

Big tins, little tins, whatever brand you can find. If it is puppy food in a tin, we would be very grateful.

Tinned puppy food is useful for little ones who need soft food, puppies who need extra encouragement to eat, and those who need a little help while recovering and growing.

Puppies have a lot of growing to do, and proper nutrition matters. Some arrive at our gate having had a very rough start in life. They need food, care, veterinary attention and the chance to grow into healthy dogs.

And that takes resources. Lots of them.

We are an open-admission refuge. We don't get to choose when animals need us, and we don't get to tell a hungry puppy to come back next month when the budget looks better.

We just have to find a way.

That is why we are asking our Legion of Angels to help us with these little things that make such a big difference.

🎁 **HOW CAN YOU HELP?**

🐾 Donate one tin of puppy food.
🐾 Donate a few tins if you can.
🐾 Order tins online and have them delivered to us.
🐾 Share this post with someone who might be able to help.

You do not need to buy all 50. One tin is one tin closer to our birthday wish!

🐾 **AND WE END OUR WEEK WITH MORE STERILISATIONS. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW WE ROLL.** 🐾

Six cats. One area. No more kittens on the way. And a very happy Jo. ❀️

On Monday, we sterilised three feral cats who disappeared so quickly afterwards that we didn't even manage to get pictures. They wanted OUT. Immediately. No photographs, no thank-you speeches, no hanging around to admire our handiwork. Just *open the door, human, I have places to be.* πŸ˜‚

And honestly, we don't blame them one little bit.

Today, we sterilised another three females. Two of them were pregnant.

Let that sink in for a moment. Two more litters that would have added to the number of cats needing food, shelter, medical care and, eventually, homes that simply aren't waiting around in abundance.

All six cats come from a campsite where they have a dedicated feeder. Someone who cares enough to make sure they are fed, and a community where we can now say that this particular area has been dealt with.

**Another area ticked off. Done and dusted. No more breeding happening there.** ❀️

Those are the cases that make your heart sing. The ones where you can finally say, *we did it. This area is done.*

Because sterilisation isn't just about the cats on the operating table today. It's about all the kittens that won't be born into a world already struggling to care for the ones here. It's about preventing suffering before it starts, rather than constantly trying to catch up after the damage is done.

And goodness knows, we spend enough of our lives trying to catch up. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

This has been a VERY busy sterilisation week, and once again, we cannot even get to the starting line, never mind the finish line, without the incredible **National Sterilization Project**, their amazing donors, and Dr Natalie, who simply took one look at our usual brand of organised chaos and ran with it.

Natalie, thank you for being part of the solution and for making things happen with us. You know we don't exactly do quiet weeks around here. ❀️

And because we believe in putting our words into action, **rabies prevention was also done and dusted.** Sterilisations and rabies prevention together. Because responsible animal welfare means looking at the bigger picture, not just the one procedure in front of us.

This is what being a Rabies Centre of Excellence means to us. Not a fancy title to put on a page. Actual work. Actual prevention. Actual animals benefiting from people who care enough to do something.

To the National Sterilization Project, every donor who makes these procedures possible, Dr Natalie, and the dedicated feeder at the campsite: thank you.

Six cats sterilised. Two pregnancies prevented from progressing. One more area completed. Rabies prevention done.

And somewhere, a whole lot of future kittens have been spared a world that wasn't waiting for them.

**Compassion with backbone. One area at a time. One cat at a time.** 🐾❀️

❀️🐾 **RIGHT, ANGELS! SOME VERY OVERDUE THANK YOUS BEFORE WE GET TO DAY 6 OF 50 FOR 50!** 🐾❀️

Because apparently, turning 50 wasn't enough nonsense for one birthday. I had to go and involve all of you in this madness too. 🀣🀣

And LOOK at what you have been doing!

The wish list is currently being negotiated. Yes, NEGOTIATED. 🀣 I suspect the animals have held a meeting and decided that my original plans were clearly not ambitious enough. The cheek of it!

So, before we get to Day 6, let's have a look at where we stand. Our totals out of 50 are currently looking like this:

πŸ’° **Donations into the bank account with reference JO 50:** 1

πŸ“± **Talktime:** 2

⚑ **Electricity:** 2

🐱 **Cat food tins:** 20

🐢 **Dog food tins:** 54

FIFTY-FOUR. OUT OF FIFTY. 🀣🀣🀣

ANGELS, YOU ABSOLUTE LEGENDS! The dogs have apparently decided that overachieving is the order of the day. Who am I to argue with that?

🐾 **Kitten sachets:** 2 boxes

πŸ• **Bags of dog food:** 4

🧴 **Bleach:** 10 x 2-litre bottles

πŸ₯© **Mince etc.:** 2

🐢 **Puppy tins:** 36

Now, can we just take a moment here?

Every tin, every bag, every bottle, every donation and every single person who has jumped in to help makes a difference. These are not just numbers on a list. They are full tummies, clean spaces, animals being cared for and one very tired birthday girl trying to keep all the plates spinning. 🀣❀️

There is no municipal funding fairy. There is no magic cupboard that fills itself. And the animals, quite frankly, couldn't care less that I'm turning 50. Supper is supper, people! THE DRAMA. THE AUDACITY. THE EMPTY BOWLS. 🀣🐾

So, to everyone who has donated, sent supplies, shared our posts, or found a way to help us along this journey, **THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.** ❀️

You are our Legion of Angels, and we genuinely could not do this without you.

Right, I need coffee. The animals need food. The electricity meter has absolutely no sympathy for my birthday celebrations, and Day 6 is waiting.

**WHO APPROVED THIS NONSENSE?** 🀣🀣❀️

Apparently, all of us.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. 🐾❀️

**RIGHT, ANGELS. ONWARDS TO DAY 6 OF 50 FOR 50!** ❀️🐾

**BEFORE WE GET TO DAY 6 OF OUR 50 FOR 50 FUNDRAISER… CAN WE HAVE A LITTLE MONTH-END CHAT? β˜•πŸΎ**Because apparently runnin...
23/10/2026

**BEFORE WE GET TO DAY 6 OF OUR 50 FOR 50 FUNDRAISER… CAN WE HAVE A LITTLE MONTH-END CHAT? β˜•πŸΎ**

Because apparently running an animal refuge means there is ALWAYS something that needs paying for. ALWAYS. πŸ˜‚

Today, before we get to the next birthday wish on our list, we need to ask for help with the usual things. The unglamorous, everyday things that keep Cat Angel Refuge running.

πŸ’§ **WATER FOR OUR STAFF**

Our temperatures are sitting above 30Β°C, and our amazing staff are working hard in this heat. At the moment, we use **4 x 5-litre bottles of drinking water DAILY.**

That's 20 litres a day just to make sure the humans who work so hard caring for our animals have enough water to drink.

They work in this heat, doing the jobs that need doing, caring for animals who cannot care for themselves. Making sure they have enough drinking water is the very least we can do for them. ❀️

πŸ₯« **AND THEN THERE IS THE CAT FOOD…**

Yesterday, sadly, **we did not receive a single tin of cat food. Not one.**

We know everyone is struggling. We know people have their own bills and responsibilities. But our cats still need to eat, and those tins make a real difference to their meals.

If you can add even one tin to your shopping order, or send a few our way, please do. We don't mind the brand or the size. Every tin helps fill a hungry tummy. 🐈❀️

πŸ’Έ **THEN THERE IS MONTH-END.**

Wages are looming. Insurance needs paying. And then there is the rest of the endless list of bills that seem to multiply when nobody is looking.

You know the drill.

The animals don't stop needing food because it's month-end. They don't stop needing medical care because the bank balance is having a nervous breakdown. The water still needs buying, the lights still need to stay on, and our staff still need to be paid for the work they do.

And because we receive **no government or municipal funding**, these costs land squarely on our shoulders.

We don't have a magical rescue-money tree growing behind the kennels. If anyone finds one, PLEASE send us the address. πŸ˜‚πŸŒ³

So, before we bring you Day 6 of our **50 for 50** birthday fundraiser, we're asking for a little help with the everyday essentials.

πŸ’§ Sponsor drinking water for our staff.
πŸ₯« Send cat food tins, any brand or size.
πŸ’° Help us get through wages and insurance.
🐾 Make a small donation towards the running costs that keep our doors open.

So here we are, asking. Again. Because the animals still need us, our staff deserve to be looked after, and giving up isn't on the agenda.

**Cat Angel Refuge. Compassion with backbone. Even when the calculator makes us question all our life choices.** ❀️🐾

And then we'll get back to Day 6 of 50 for 50, because apparently turning 50 comes with a fundraising job description I never agreed to. πŸ€£πŸŽ‚

Thank you for standing with us, even when the list of things we need seems never-ending. ❀️

HENRYVILLE, MOCHA, AND THE BAKKIE EVERYONE KNOWS. ❀️🐾

So, we're STILL busy with sterilisations. Because apparently, sitting down and having a quiet day is not something Cat Angel Refuge has mastered. πŸ˜‚

Henryville featured again today, and another street has TWO NSP specials!

And if you've been to Henryville with us, you'll know it's becoming a bit of a thing.

The dogs know our bakkie. THE DOGS KNOW OUR BAKKIE! πŸ˜‚ And the children call us Tannie and wave when they see us.

There is something rather special about that. When the dogs recognise your vehicle and the children greet you like you're part of the neighbourhood, you know that showing up repeatedly is making a difference.

And Henryville is a place of contrasts. You drive in and see tiny RDP houses on one side, informal homes on the other, and in between, half-finished RDP houses that stand as reminders of how complicated life can be for the people who live there.

Every home has its own story. Every family has its own circumstances. And the animals are part of those lives, too.

And we show up.

Not to judge. Not to make assumptions. But to help where we can, build trust and work towards a future where fewer animals are born into circumstances where finding food, shelter and veterinary care can be a struggle.

Because animal welfare doesn't happen in isolation from the communities we serve.

Now, let me introduce you to Mocha! β˜•πŸΎ

We met this gorgeous girl at the GARC Rabies Training, where her mom asked us to please arrange her sterilisation when she was old enough.

And here we are!

Six months old, ready for her sterilisation, and apparently auditioning for a sports-model contract. πŸ˜‚πŸ“Έ Honestly, somebody needs to explain to this girl that this is a welfare programme, not a modelling agency!

Her mom loves her, and Mocha loves her mom just as much. And that's exactly how it should be.

Her mom asked for help, and we were able to make it happen.

Mocha was sterilised AND received her rabies vaccination.

Because being a Rabies Centre of Excellence means following words with actions. It means doing the work, protecting animals and communities, and making sure prevention isn't just something we talk about.

We're working towards our goal of 100% sterilisation. It's a big goal, and we know it won't happen overnight.

But every dog sterilised matters.
Every rabies vaccination matters.
Every owner who asks for help matters.

And every time those children shout "TANNIE!" and wave at us, we're reminded that change isn't always one big, dramatic moment.

Sometimes it's a familiar bakkie, a familiar face, a dog who's finally been sterilised, and a family who has been given a little help to do the right thing.

One house. One street. One area at a time.

A massive thank you to the National Sterilization Project every donor who makes this work possible, and our wonderful Dr Natalie, who said, "Yes, let's do this."

Thank you for helping us turn good intentions into real, practical change.

We'll be back, Henryville. ❀️

The dogs will know the bakkie. The children will wave at Tannie. And we'll keep doing what we came to do.

Because the goal isn't simply to rescue animals when things go wrong. It's to prevent suffering before it starts.

Baby steps, people. Baby steps. But every single one counts. 🐾❀️

And because today clearly hasn't given us enough to deal with... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

LUKE'S GUMBOOTS ARE SMILING.

Yes, apparently his gumboots have developed holes and are now smiling at him. 🀣

Luke has been working with water every day, so he's now dealing with wet feet as well.

And if you know Luke, you'll know that when life gets a bit too much, he handles trauma the way many of us in rescue do.

**WITH JOKES. BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LAUGH OR YOU'LL CRY.** πŸ˜‚

Between the animals, the emergencies, the daily chaos and everything else that comes with rescue work, sometimes all you can do is find the humour in the absolute circus that is your life.

Luke doesn't get paid to do this. He shows up, gets stuck in, gets his feet wet, and now has to work alongside footwear that has apparently developed its own facial expression.

I'm his mother. I should probably be concerned.

Instead, I'm sitting here wondering how long those boots have been smiling before he decided to tell us. 🀣

So, we have decided that **Luke needs a pair of GRUMPY GUMBOOTS.**

No smiles. No holes. No cheerful little faces letting water in. Just good, solid gumboots that understand their job and keep his feet DRY. πŸ˜‚

We will be buying him a new pair, but if anyone would like to help us get Luke sorted with some grumpy gumboots, the help would be very warmly welcomed.

Because the man helps us keep things going, and the least we can do is try to keep the water on the OUTSIDE of his footwear!

Every little bit helps. And if we can get Luke a pair of boots that don't smile, I think we've achieved something worthwhile today. 🀣❀️

Rescue life, folks. The animals need saving, the humans need therapy, and the gumboots need replacing.

**PLEASE SEND GRUMPY GUMBOOTS.** πŸ˜‚πŸ‘’πŸΎ

**GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS AND ABSOLUTELY AWFUL NEWS. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜**

Right, Angels. Grab your coffee. Preferably strong. Mine hasn't even had time to do its job properly yet, and already we have a situation.

❀️ **THE GOOD NEWS!**

OUR ANGEL BAKKIE IS FIXED!!!

Her hail damage has been repaired, and we have our girl back! πŸ₯³β€οΈ

We are incredibly grateful that insurance covered the hire fees while she was being repaired. That took a massive expense off our shoulders, and we absolutely appreciate it.

😬 **THE BAD NEWS.**

We had to fill up the hired bakkie.

Now, insurance covered the hire fees, but we have done a LOT of kilometres in that vehicle travelling around doing rescue work. We cannot expect insurance to cover all that fuel as well. That responsibility falls on us, and that's fair.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE OF DIESEL LATELY???

That fuel bill has landed, and our rescue budget is busy looking for the nearest exit. 😭

😭 **AND THEN THERE'S THE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL NEWS.**

Our OWN Angel Bakkie is empty too.

And because apparently one fuel crisis wasn't enough, the hired bakkie needs DIESEL and our own bakkie needs PETROL.

Two bakkies.
Two different fuel pumps.
One rescue budget.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

And just when we thought the hired bakkie was done with us, she had to do **ONE LAST RESCUE before going back to Hertz!**

Because apparently, even a hired bakkie doesn't get to retire quietly when Cat Angel Refuge is involved. πŸ˜‚

We got a call about a kitten stuck in a mulberry tree in a garden FULL of snappy dogs who were not particularly fond of kittens.

Now, that is not exactly a kitten-friendly neighbourhood, is it?

So off we went, and the little one is SAFE! ❀️🐱

One last job for the hired bakkie. One more kitten out of danger. And then she can go back to Hertz having earned her keep in the most Cat Angel way possible.

**BUT NOW WE HAVE A SLIGHT PROBLEM.**

Our hired bakkie needs to be returned, and our own bakkie needs petrol before we can carry on with rescue work.

We are grateful that insurance covered the hire fees. We are not expecting anyone else to pay for the fuel we've used doing our work. We know that is our responsibility.

But the reality is that the fuel costs have hit us hard, and we need help.

Because cruelty complaints don't stop. Animals don't stop needing help. Vet trips don't disappear. Emergencies don't check our bank balance before they happen.

We cover a massive area, and sometimes the only difference between an animal getting help and being left to suffer is whether we can get into a vehicle and GO.

Vehicles, unfortunately, don't run on good intentions, coffee and sheer bloody determination.

Although goodness knows we have plenty of the last three. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

❀️ **SO, LEGION OF ANGELS, WE NEED YOUR HELP.**

We need to get the hired bakkie sorted with its fuel, and we need petrol in our own Angel Bakkie so we can keep doing what we do.

If you can spare R20, R50, R100 or whatever you can manage, please do.

If you cannot donate, sharing this post helps too.

We don't expect one person to fill both tanks. Lots of people doing a little can make a very big difference.

**One bakkie needs diesel. One bakkie needs petrol. And somewhere out there, another animal needs us.**

Today, that was a kitten in a mulberry tree surrounded by dogs who weren't interested in making friends.

Tomorrow? We honestly have no idea what is waiting for us.

That's rescue. We get up, we answer the calls, we go where we are needed, and then we figure out how to pay for it all.

Sometimes with a plan. Sometimes with a prayer. Sometimes with coffee and a bank balance that makes us want to lie down on the floor.

Today, we have a safe kitten, a repaired Angel Bakkie, and two very empty fuel tanks to deal with.

We'll take the win. ❀️🐾

Right, Angels! We are back for **DAY 5** of my countdown to turning 50 on 29 November.

And today we move to **WISH NUMBER 5: 50 TINS OF CAT FOOD!** 🐈❀️

Because yesterday we spoke about the dogs and their tins of food. It would be rather rude to leave the feline department out of the birthday celebrations.

And if you have ever lived with a cat, you know they don't exactly believe in being left out of anything.

The dogs might be happy to see a tin of food. The cats will inspect it, judge the presentation, possibly turn their noses up at it, and then come back ten minutes later screaming because apparently they have never been fed in their entire lives.

Cats. Honestly. 🀣🐾

❀️ **TODAY'S WISH: 50 TINS OF CAT FOOD!**

And just like yesterday, **we don't mind the brand or the size of the tin!**

Big tins, small tins, whatever brand you can get. If it's cat food in a tin, we would be grateful for it.

We care far more about getting food into bowls than what the label says.

Tinned food is useful for cats who need softer food, those recovering from illness, and the little ones who need a bit of extra help.

And with rescue, there is always another mouth to feed. Sometimes it is a tiny kitten. Sometimes it is a cat who has been through far too much. Sometimes it is a perfectly healthy cat who is simply convinced that the human staff have forgotten their most important job.

FEEDING THE CAT. IMMEDIATELY. 🀣

We are an open-admission refuge. We don't get to choose when animals need us, and we don't get to tell hungry animals to come back when the budget looks better.

We just keep going, one bowl at a time.

Now, I am fully expecting the cats to demand that we open every tin for quality control. They take their responsibilities very seriously, especially when those responsibilities involve eating.

Thank you for standing with us, Angels. Every tin, every donation, every share and every kind word helps us keep going.

Well. Good morning to us. πŸ™„πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

**2.9 UNITS. TWO POINT NINE.**

That's what we have left to run Cat Angel Refuge today.

Yesterday was one of those days where we were so flat out doing everything else that we didn't get a chance to sort out the electricity. And now here we are, starting the morning with a meter that's basically laughing in our faces.

Because obviously the dogs and cats don't stop needing things just because we're running on empty. The washing doesn't do itself. The cleaning doesn't do itself. Nothing stops. Ever. Welcome to the Cat Angel circus. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Except this morning, we have a rather big problem.

**WE NEED ELECTRICITY. AND WE NEED IT TODAY.**

We simply don't have enough units to get through the day, and I honestly don't know how we're going to stretch 2.9 units across everything that needs doing here.

So, Legion of Angels, I'm putting this out there and hoping someone can help us.

If anyone is able to buy us some electricity online, please, please do. Every little bit helps, and right now, every single unit counts.

⚑ **ELECTRICITY DETAILS**

**Meter number:** 07058049193

Once you've bought the electricity, please send the token PIN to either:

πŸ“± **Jo:** 0834460864 (MTN)

πŸ“± **Karen:** 0793195200 (Vodacom)

We are a rescue. The animals still need us, regardless of what the bank balance says or what the electricity meter decides to throw at us this morning.

Some days it's food. Some days it's vet bills. Today, apparently, it's trying to keep the lights on with 2.9 units and a prayer. πŸ™ˆ

If you can help, please do. If you can't, please share this so it might reach someone who can.

Because the Cat Angel circus is open, the animals are waiting, and the electricity meter clearly has absolutely no respect for our workload. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Thank you, my Legion of Angels. You have no idea how much it means when you help us keep going.
