WINTER HAS ARRIVED AND WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW MORE THAN EVER

As the icy winds and relentless rain set in, countless animals in our lower-income communities face another winter of hardship. Many families are struggling simply to put food on the table and keep their own homes warm. Veterinary care is a luxury they simply cannot afford, yet their animals still suffer from illness, injury, neglect, unwanted litters, and exposure to the bitter cold.

These animals are completely dependent on CARE's compassion, dedication and intervention.

Every day CARE steps into situations where there is nowhere else to turn. We provide critical veterinary care, sterilisations, rescue and rehoming, home checks, and kennels for animals forced to endure the harsh winter weather. We witness the suffering, the hunger, the fear, and the pain that so often goes unseen.

But we cannot continue this work without funding.

Our CARE Charity Shop is a vital lifeline that enables us to keep helping animals in desperate need, and today we are making an urgent appeal for donations of winter clothing, blankets, bedding, furniture, crockery, cutlery, and any household items you no longer need.

Every item donated becomes hope. Every item sold helps provide warmth, medical care, shelter, and a second chance to an animal that would otherwise have none.

Please open your hearts and your cupboards. What is no longer needed in your home could help save a life this winter.

The cold is here. The suffering is real. And the animals are depending on all of us.

Busy cleaning up, moving, or renovating?

CARE welcomes donations of basins, baths, taps, shower doors, fittings, fixtures, furniture, household appliances, and larger home items — along with everyday essentials like curtains, pots, pans, and other household goods.

CARE also has storage facilities for larger items, where these goods are kept and sold directly to support our work and ongoing community efforts.

The need is relentless. Every day we face animals that are injured, abandoned, abused, and fighting to survive. Veterinary care, sterilisations, and emergency treatment come at a cost and funds are never enough.

Every single item you donate turns into life-saving care. Every cent goes directly to the animals who have no one else.

When age is just a number

At 72 years young, Tannie Sarah from CARE continues to inspire everyone around her with her endless compassion, strength, and love for animals and the community. While many slow down, she keeps going every single day feeding, caring, comforting, fundraising, and fighting for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Through sponsorships, donations, and funds raised from the sale of donated goods at our CARE Charity Shop, we have proudly secured 74 kennels for animals in need. But winter is fast approaching, and there are still so many abandoned and vulnerable animals out there desperately needing warmth, shelter, and hope.

A very special thank you to Sam from Purple Kennels and all their incredible sponsors who helped make this possible. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to stand with animal welfare organisations like ours are truly changing lives. Thank you for helping us bring warmth, safety, and hope to those who need it most.

Tannie Sarah proves daily that kindness has no age limit. Her heart for people and animals knows no bounds, and her dedication reminds us that one person truly can make a difference.

You can help us continue this life-saving work by:
🐾 Donating goods to our CARE Charity Shop
🐾 Becoming a monthly donor
🐾 Sponsoring a kennel
🐾 Making a once-off donation
🐾 Spreading awareness about the work we do

She Was Suffering Silently Until Compassion Found

When little Lilly was surrendered into compassionate hands, she was immediately taken for veterinary care. After examination, she was diagnosed with rickets a painful condition that affects the development and strength of bones in growing puppies. Rickets is often linked to severe malnutrition, poor growth, neglect, or underlying health complications, leaving tiny bodies fragile and struggling to cope.

Little Lilly’s tiny body also carried the heartbreaking signs of prolonged suffering. She was covered in an overwhelming infestation of ticks and fleas, leaving her weak, exhausted, and incredibly vulnerable for such a young puppy.

From the moment Lilly was found, she was surrounded by love, warmth, and gentle care. At CARE, compassion means showing up fully even when the journey is heartbreaking. Sometimes rescue is not only about saving a life, but about making sure a fur baby experiences dignity, tenderness, and comfort when they need it most.

Sadly, despite intervention and every effort made to help her, Lilly’s little body was far more compromised than initially hoped. The kindest and most compassionate decisions were ultimately made in her best interest so that her suffering did not continue unseen and in pain.

What matters most is that Lilly did not remain trapped in pain, fear, discomfort, and physical distress with nobody to help her. Instead, she was held with compassion and surrounded by caring hands during her final journey. Lilly left this world knowing warmth, love, and kindness.

Every donation made to the CARE Charity Shop helps us continue showing up for vulnerable animals like Lilly. Your donated items truly become a lifeline for animals who have nobody else fighting for them.

THE RAIN HAS NOT STOPPED AND THEY ARE SUFFERING

For days now, we have been battered by relentless rain, freezing winds, and bitter cold and more storms are still on the way. Today while many of us are warm indoors, countless animals are lying outside on wet ground, soaked to the bone, shivering through the darkness with nowhere to hide from the cold. Just silent suffering.

Through the incredible kindness of donors, together with CARE matching and contributing wherever possible, we have managed to secure 54 kennels from PURPLE KENNEL PROJECTS for animals living in heartbreaking conditions. These kennels will be given to dogs who have spent their lives exposed to rain, cold, and neglect.

PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM BY EITHER MONETARY DONATION OR AT OUR CARE CHARITY SHOP, read below our specific shortages @ our CARE CHARITY SHOP.

Our Charity Shop, which is our main source of income, is also in desperate need of support. Right now, we have almost no winter stock left and urgently need donations of winter clothing, blankets, duvets, towels, crockery, cutlery, and good quality second-hand items.

If you cannot donate, please share this post.
Because somewhere today, an animal is lying in the cold waiting for kindness to find them.

CARE remains committed not only to compassion, but also to responsibility, education, and accountability. While we help vulnerable families and animals wherever possible, we also act in line with South Africa’s Animal Protection laws regarding neglect and cruelty.

In terms of the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962, it is an offence to keep an animal in conditions that cause unnecessary suffering, neglect, starvation, exposure, or lack of proper shelter.

A kennel is not a luxury. Shelter, protection from the weather, access to food, water, and basic care are part of responsible animal ownership.

CARE believes education must always come first. We work with communities to guide, support, educate, sterilise, and improve the lives of animals wherever possible. But we also believe accountability matters, because animals cannot speak for themselves.

Sterilisation remains one of the greatest acts of compassion because it prevents more innocent lives from being born into suffering, abandonment, and neglect.

A Tiny Jersey. A Blind Lamb. A Miracle Only Compassion Could Create.

When one of our CARE Shop volunteers, Sharon, donated her beloved fur baby Stewie’s clothes the little jerseys he wore before crossing the rainbow a year ago she could never have imagined what those small pieces of fabric would go on to do.

Her grief, her love, her memories of Stewie all folded gently into a donation box. What she didn’t know was that her act of giving would ripple far beyond her sorrow.

Because one of those tiny jerseys found its way into the hands of a regular customer not for a dog, but for a fragile, blind little lamb who had been found alone next to the road.

He had no mother, no protection, and no chance of survival where he lay. Because he was blind, the farmer did not want to keep him and his story could so easily have ended there. But this family refused to let a small, helpless life be thrown away.

They picked him up, held him close, and chose love over convenience. They named him Dawid , after David who stood bravely before Goliath because even the smallest soul can carry a giant’s courage.

And then something beautiful happened.

A simple jersey from our little charity shop became his warmth.
His comfort. His protection. His first feeling of safety in a world that had already been unkind to him.

That tiny jersey, bought for just a few rand, wrapped around a life that almost didn’t get a chance. Now Dawid is safe, warm, and deeply loved a blind lamb who should never have survived, but did, because kindness stepped in.

And that is the miracle we often forget:

At the CARE Charity Shop, even the smallest item on a shelf can travel further than we will ever know.
A jersey meant for a dog became hope for a lamb.
A small purchase became a rescue.
A simple act became a lifeline.

This is why we do what we do.
This is why your support matters.
Because sometimes the smallest things a jersey, a moment, a choice carry the biggest love.

Somewhere out there, a little lamb named Dawid is alive today because compassion found him one tiny jersey at a time.

IF YOU'VE EVER WONDERED WHETHER YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE THEN THIS IS IT.

Your Time Costs Nothing — But Your Presence Changes Everything

At CARE, we believe every woman carries something powerful inside her a tenderness that heals, a strength that steadies, and a heart that lifts others up.

Our Charity Shop is more than a shop it is a place where friendships quietly take root, where laughter finds its way back into tired hearts, where purpose is rediscovered in the simplest moments, and where every pair of hands becomes a blessing to an animal who cannot speak for itself

You don’t need experience. You don’t need qualifications. You don’t need to “be anything” other than yourself.

If you can fold a shirt, greet a customer, make a cup of tea, or simply stand beside another woman you already have everything we need.

Some days are busy. Some days are quiet. But every day, your presence reminds us that kindness still exists in this world.

If your heart has been gently nudging you to do something meaningful, if you’ve been longing to feel part of something bigger than your everyday world and if you’ve been yearning to know that your life is quietly touching another life in ways that truly matter then maybe this is the moment you’ve been waiting for.

Come. There is a place for you here. A chair. A task. A purpose. A family.

You matter more than you know. Together, we can continue to save lives.
