🐾❤️ REMEMBER ZOEY? TODAY, SHE GOT HER CHANCE. ❤️🐾
Remember Zoey?
The poor soul who was abandoned years ago and somehow survived all that time on her own, until she was finally caught a few weeks ago.
Zoey is still absolutely terrified of people.
She isn't aggressive. She doesn't want to hurt anyone. She is simply scared.
When you walk through the kennels and see her, it honestly breaks your heart. You only have to look in her direction and you can see the fear in her eyes. She immediately tries to make herself as small as possible.
And the hardest part is knowing that we will probably never know what happened to this girl to make her so terrified of people.
Then a young lady lifted her hand and said something we desperately hoped someone would say:
"I'll give Zoey a chance. I'll work with her." ❤️
But getting Zoey there wasn't going to be as simple as putting a lead on her, picking her up and loading her into a car.
Because of her fear of people, we needed a complete plan of action. Everything had to be carefully thought through to keep her stress as low as possible and get her from the kennels to her new environment as quickly and safely as we could.
And this is where our amazing vets at Randfontein Dierehospitaal - Veearts Dr Naude stepped in.
Together, we made a plan that put Zoey's wellbeing first.
Dr Shosha went out to the kennels, where Zoey was safely sedated so that she could be transported without putting her through unnecessary fear and stress.
She was then taken to Randfontein Dierehospitaal, where she was checked and given some booster vaccinations — just to make sure our girl was covered before starting this next chapter.
And then...
Zoey went HOME. 🥹❤️
Tonight, although still a little sleepy, Zoey is warm and safe in her brand-new bed with her brand-new blanket.
No kennel.
No wondering what tomorrow will bring.
She now has someone who has made the commitment to give her the time she needs. Someone willing to work at Zoey's pace, give her attention without forcing it, and hopefully teach this terrified little soul that not every human is going to hurt her.
It may take weeks.
It may take months.
But for the first time, Zoey has that chance.

And to the young lady who said, "I'll give her a chance" — thank you.
Sometimes that is literally all a rescue dog needs.
