Starpups Dog Ice Cream has been formulated together with veterinarians and caters for diabetic, lactose intolerant and older dogs as well. Although all our ingredients are organic, the ice cream isn't strictly organic because after it has been frozen, it's considered processed. Starpups is actually more than a treat as it contains vital vitamins, minerals, enzymes and probiotics that are needed in your dog's diet. Our ice cream contains no Xylitol or artificial flavourings, colourants and ingredients.

Happy International Dog Day 🤍🐾

To us, they’re a part of our everyday lives.
But to them, we are their whole world.

They’ll never understand how little time we have with them or just how much they mean to us, they only know that they get to spend their lives loving us.

So take the extra walk. Stay for the cuddle. Take the photo. Let them have the treat. Sit on the floor with them for a little longer.

Because one day, we’ll wish we could have just one more ordinary day.

Live WYLD 🤍

✨A glossy coat is more than just beautiful... it's one of the clearest signs of a healthy dog! ✨

A healthy, shiny coat is typically supported by balanced nutrition, healthy skin, proper hydration and essential fatty acids.🐟 When they're thriving on the inside, it shows on the outside. ✨

Because great health isn't just something they feel, it's something you can see. 🐾

Not all “healthy” pet treats and supplements are created equal…

Walk down any pet aisle and you’ll see shelves full of products marketed as natural, functional, or beneficial for your dog or cat. But when you take a closer look at the ingredient lists, many of them are highly processed, packed with fillers, or contain additives that don’t actually support long term health.

Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest and most natural ones.

Take a look at a few whole-food alternatives that can offer real benefits to commonly marketed supplements and treats, without unnecessary processing… think:

🐟 Sprats
🦴 nutrient-rich air dried organs
🥩 simple ingredients

Food should work with your pet’s biology, not against it.

Corn isn’t toxic to dogs or cats. But should it be the foundation of their diet?

In many commercial pet foods, corn (maize) is used because it’s inexpensive, shelf-stable, and easy to process into kibble. The problem is that dogs and cats are biologically designed to thrive on animal-based proteins and fats, not carbohydrate-heavy grains.

A diet where corn is a primary ingredient often means:
• High in starch (sugar)
• Lacks sufficient protein
• Prioritises shelf life over biological needs
• Heavily laced with pesticides
• Made from Genetically Modified Organisms (approximately 85% of South African corn is GMO)

Consider this. Just this month, a nationwide recall of several major dry pet food brands occurred after testing found Salmonella contamination and elevated levels of the mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) found in the maize used to produce the food. These mould toxins naturally develop on grains like corn and can cause digestive issues in pets when present at high levels.

This doesn’t mean corn is “poison.”
It does raise an important question though: Why are grain-heavy ingredients the foundation of so many pet foods in the first place?

Our species-appropriate diet focuses on what dogs and cats evolved to eat:
🥩 Animal proteins
🦴 Organ meats
🌿 Nutrient-rich Whole Foods & Supplements

In nature, dogs would eat a variety of proteins over time… different animals, different nutrients, different benefits. That natural rotation helps build a diverse, resilient gut microbiome🦠

If we feed the same highly processed food daily, gut diversity suffers, and that diversity matters! beneficial gut bacteria help support nutrient absorption, immune strength, and even the production of essential amino acids like lysine, which plays a huge role in muscle development, tissue repair, and overall vitality.

A species-appropriate raw diet with rotating proteins helps mimic how dogs are meant to eat:
🥩 Broader nutrient profile
🦠 Better gut balance
💪 Support for immunity, mobility & long-term health

Food isn’t just fuel.
It’s information for the body.
