This magnificent owl captivates with its piercing golden eyes, perfectly designed for life as a skilled nocturnal hunter. Silent, patient, and incredibly observant, owls play an important role in maintaining balance within their ecosystems. 🌙🌿

Did you know? An owl's eyes are so large that they cannot move them in their sockets. Instead, owls can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees to get a better view of their surroundings! 👀

The SANBI-NZG team proudly attended the annual Thandulwazi Saturday School Career Expo hosted by St Stithians College, joining a diverse range of stakeholders to engage with learners about exciting career opportunities in biodiversity, conservation, zoology, research, and environmental sciences. 🦁🦒🔬🌱

The expo provided a valuable platform to share knowledge, spark curiosity, and encourage young minds to explore careers that contribute to protecting our natural heritage and shaping a sustainable future.

💋 Seal Your Zoo Visit with a Seal Kiss!

Make your visit to the National Zoological Garden even more memorable with a Seal Kiss experience!

Join one of our voluntary health check training sessions and receive a special seal kiss while learning more about how our animal care team looks after these playful marine mammals. Your participation also supports wildlife conservation and education initiatives.
📅 When: Weekends and public holidays
(Special weekday sessions Tuesday–Friday available on request)
🕒 Time: 14:30
👥 Capacity: Limited to 10 visitors per session
⏱️ Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes
👨‍👩‍👧 Note: Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult.
