Hey Townies,
I've been holding off on this post. Usually, our Fridays are reserved for Feel Good Fridays, sharing happy stories, adoptions, and breakthroughs. But this Friday is different 🥹
We share so many of our joyful moments with you, and sometimes we hold back the heartbreak. Today, though, we need to honour three beautiful souls we lost this week.
It has been an incredibly difficult week for the Dogtown family. It never gets easier to make the soul-destroying decision to help one of our dogs or cats cross the Rainbow Bridge, let alone three in the space of a few days. But from the very beginning, we have always promised to put our rescues' quality of life above our own emotions, no matter how much it hurts.
Troy, the legend. ❤️
Troy was part of our family for many, many years. Over the years, we helped him through surgery after surgery as cancer relentlessly attacked his body. After so many battles, we truly thought we had beaten it. Sadly, we hadn't 🥹
We're so sorry, Troy. If love alone could have cured the cancer that spread through your body, you would still be with us today. Thank you for every moment, every tail wag, and every lesson in resilience.
Scampie ❤️ The oldies really do break our hearts.
Dear misunderstood Scampie, your body was tired, and your legs could no longer carry you the way they once did. Yet your eyes still sparkled with excitement whenever your favourite people arrived, always hoping for a treat and some extra love.
We wish we could stop time for dogs like you. You had a good life with us, sweet boy, and you were so very loved. Now you are free from pain, and we like to think you're running across the Rainbow Bridge with strong legs once again, carrying that larger-than-life personality wherever you go.
Garfield. ❤️ Oh, Garfield. Our resident feral cat.
Your loss has left a hole in all our hearts. Even though human interaction wasn't really your thing, you were always there. Whether you were curled up on a kitchen chair, casually supervising the staff, or giving us heart failure with your tree-climbing adventures, you were part of the fabric of Dogtown.
For years, seeing your little face around every corner brought us comfort and smiles. We're so sorry that your tiny body couldn't win the battle against the dreaded Feline Leukemia, despite how hard we tried to protect you.
Townies, I'm sorry that today isn't a Feel Good Friday 💔
Today is a Tribute Friday.
A day to remember three incredible souls who touched our lives in different ways, who were deeply loved, and who will be missed every single day.
Run free, Troy. ❤️ Run free, Scampie. ❤️ Rest easy, Garfield. ❤️
Until we meet again. 🌈🐾
