✨ The glow-up… but not just because of me. ✨
June → September 2026
This is one of those before-and-after photos that makes a therapist want to say, “Look what I did!”
And yes — I’m incredibly proud of the part I’ve played in this horse’s journey.
But the truth is, this transformation belongs to a team. 🤎
As an equine physiotherapy student, I can assess and treat the horse and brainstorm exercises and help create a plan to develop strength and mobility and better movement patterns.
But I cannot do the work for the horse.
And I certainly cannot do it without the people around him.
🩺 The vet has played an important role, particularly with his nutritional management and overall health.
🌱 Seasonal changes have naturally contributed too, more rain and improved grazing.
🤎 His owner deserves a huge amount of credit. She has consistently put out brainstorming into practice, adapted his workload and, most importantly, remained incredibly dedicated to his wellbeing.
🐴 And then there is the slightly unique challenge of this particular horse…he is a therapy horse.
That means his job isn’t always to work in a perfectly balanced frame with a strong, symmetrical rider helping him build the “ideal” muscles. Some of the people he works with simply aren’t physically able to influence his posture or movement in that way.
So his programme has had to work around his job, rather than expecting his job to fit neatly around his rehabilitation.
That has meant finding exercises that allow him to develop strength, stability and body awareness without compromising the work he does for the people who rely on him.
And that’s something I think is important to remember when we see dramatic transformation photos online.
A physio might be in the photo.
A treatment might be part of the story.
But we are rarely the whole story.
Sometimes the biggest changes come from a combination of veterinary care, nutrition, exercise, management, environment, the owner’s dedication, the horse’s own adaptation — and yes, physiotherapy too.
Because good rehabilitation isn’t about one person being the hero.
It’s about building the right team around the horse. 🤎🐴
