Groenkloof Feral Project NPO 334-601 Groenkloof Feral Project is a volunteer-based, community-supported non-profit working to create a safer future for cats in and around Groenkloof, Pretoria.

🐾 Rescuing & taming feral-born kittens, giving them a chance at loving homes

❤️ Educating & partnering with the community to end the cycle of suffering

Since our start in 2020, hundreds of cats and kittens have been trapped, sterilised, and either returned to safe colonies or adopted into homes.

🐾 STERILISATION DAY | ALICE (ENGLISH BREAKFAST) ✂️

Some days are about more than a trip to the vet. They are about breaking a cycle and changing the course of a life.

On 22 May, we spent a week trapping in Hatfield after being asked to help a mother cat and her kittens living between unstable, collapsing walls. Alice was one of the little lives who needed a chance.

Her story began in a place where cats weren't wanted, along busy roads where danger was never far away.

But on 29 September, Alice's future became a little brighter. ✨

✂️ No unwanted litters.
🐾 No adding more kittens to an already overwhelming crisis.
🤍 One less generation at risk of suffering.

Sterilisation is about more than preventing kittens. It's about preventing suffering before it begins.

To the Klopper family, thank you for honouring your commitment to Alice and giving this beautiful girl the life she deserves. 💛 Your decision has helped break a cycle.

She now has a second chance to be safe, to be loved, and to enjoy life simply being a cat. 🐾🤍

🐾 STERILISATION UPDATE ✂️

12 August marks a very special milestone for Pluto — his sterilisation day!

But this isn't just about a procedure.

It's about changing the course of a life.
It's about breaking a cycle.
It's about choosing a different future.

On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, we came across a post that simply read:

“Kitty urgently needs a loving and happy home. Pretoria, Arcadia.”

Behind those few words was a little life at risk. We stepped in before Pluto could end up in the wrong hands, back on the streets, or worse.

Because every life deserves a chance. Every cat deserves safety. And every rescue deserves a future beyond survival.

Today, Pluto's sterilisation represents something bigger than a veterinary procedure. It's a promise.

✂️ A promise of fewer unwanted litters.
🐾 A promise of less suffering.
💚 A promise of a future filled with safety, dignity, and love.

To the Stuart-Delange family, thank you for honouring your commitment and giving Pluto the future he deserves. Your commitment helps ensure that rescue doesn't end with finding a home — it continues with responsible pet ownership.

🐾 TNR UPDATE | 12 OCT 2026. 🐾

On 4 October 2026, we spotted an injured ginger boy living among the skips. This was a feeding site we had taken over following the tragic passing of a fellow feral cat carer.

We had spent months establishing feeding stations, trying to locate the cats and prepare for TNR. Then we found him.
He meowed at us, almost as if he was asking for help. 💔 We had no trap that day, and although he came closer for food, he ran whenever we approached.

So we kept coming back.

After a week of patience and building trust, we finally trapped him on 12 October and rushed him to our vet. He had the saddest eyes or eyes of excruciating pain and discomfort. His injury was so severe that he needed an amputation — a delicate procedure because so little healthy skin remained.

He will spend 10 days recovering in a safe enclosure, and thanks to our incredible veterinary team, this brave boy is doing well. 😺

🐾 RESCUE UPDATE | 9 OCT 2026 🐾

On 9 October, we received a photo and three short messages that set a rescue in motion:

“Hi ek het 3 baba.”
“Gaan hulle uitgesit word.”
“Daar tussen die asblikke .. weet nie.”

Three tiny newborn kittens. In a box. Among the rubbish bins. Their future uncertain.

We recognised the premises immediately. It was a site in the C*D where we had helped cats back in March 2024. Knowing the area, we were deeply concerned about these babies’ chances of survival.

We couldn't turn away.

We immediately contacted a fellow rescuer working nearby, who went out to assess the situation. The decision was made to remove the kittens and get them into foster care as quickly as possible.

Thankfully, help came without delay. The three little ones were rushed to safety and placed in the care of our incredible foster mom, Rachel.

But heartbreak was waiting for us.

When our fellow rescuer arrived at the foster home, she noticed that the tiny grey kitten had an injury. At just a few hours old, these babies were already incredibly fragile, and his condition was especially worrying.

Rachel did everything she could to care for him.

Then, at 00:15 on Saturday morning, we received the call no rescuer ever wants to get. The little grey baby was not doing well.

Arrangements were made immediately to meet at the closest 24-hour veterinary clinic.

But heartbreakingly, he passed away on the journey there. 💔

One tiny life. One little soul who never got the chance to grow, to play, to discover the world, or to know what it feels like to have a family of his own.

We are devastated that we couldn't save him.

But his two siblings are still here. Still fighting. Still holding on.

And we are determined to give them every possible chance.

For now, they are doing well, latching onto their bottles and receiving regular feeds under Rachel's loving care. At this age, they need round-the-clock attention, specialised nutrition, warmth and careful monitoring. Their journey is only just beginning, and the next eight weeks will be critical.

Please help us keep them alive, one feeder, one day and one tiny milestone at a time.

Today, we’re celebrating special happy ending! 🥹 A massive thank you to Hendrik for welcoming sweet Matewis (formerly Damien) into your family and giving him the gift of a loving forever home. We couldn’t be happier for this precious boy!

We’re so excited for Matewis to begin this wonderful new chapter, filled with love, comfort and happiness. We hope he and Hermione become the best of companions and share many beautiful memories together. Here’s to a lifetime of purrs, cuddles and happy adventures! 🐾

We’d also like to give a heartfelt shout-out to the fosters who cared for Damien along the way. 💝
Thank you for opening your home, giving him the love and patience he needed, and helping him prepare for this exciting next step. Your kindness played such an important role in his journey to finding his forever family.
