🚨 THIS IS WHAT OVERCROWDING LOOKS LIKE. 🚨

And remember — these statistics are for ONLY FOUR DAYS.

📅 Monday, 31 August – Thursday, 3 September

🐶 Dogs that came IN: 11
🐱 Cats that came IN: 5

🏡 Dogs adopted: 4
🏡 Cats adopted: 1

That means in just four days:

➡️ 16 animals came through our gates.
⬅️ Only 5 left through adoption.

That is a net increase of 10 animals in FOUR DAYS.

And this is happening while we are ALREADY overcrowded by:

🐶 80 dogs
🐱 60 cats

We keep saying that we are full.

We keep saying that we are overcrowded.

We keep asking people to adopt.

But these numbers show exactly what we mean.

This is only Monday to Thursday. The week isn't even over yet.

At this rate, no shelter can keep up.

We desperately need our community to help us turn these numbers around.

🌧️ Due to the weather expected tomorrow, we’ve decided to move our Puppy Viewing Day to Saturday, 5 September 2026.

🕗 TIME: 08:00 – 11:00 ONLY
📍 Paws Haven Potchefstroom

And trust us… you don’t want to miss this! 🐶❤️

We currently have OVER 50 PUPPIES in foster care, and on Saturday they will all be coming to Paws Haven for you to meet! 🥹🐾

If you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged family member to your home, Saturday is the day to come and meet them!

More than 50 little faces.
More than 50 wagging tails.
More than 50 puppies hoping that someone walks in and chooses them. ❤️🏡

Please remember, we are only open from 08:00 until 11:00, so come early and give yourself enough time to meet our beautiful foster babies.

Due to the bad weather conditions expected tomorrow, we have decided to move our Adopt Your Boss event to:

🆘 URGENT HELP NEEDED – LABOUR / INSTALLATION BEFORE FRIDAY! 🐾🔨

Thanks to funding donations we recently received, we were able to purchase palisades and poles to help us create additional free-running spaces for our dogs.

Now we desperately need someone with the skills and manpower to help us install them. 🙏

We want to divide the park at the front of Paws Haven into three separate temporary free-running camps.

Our staff have already done their absolute best to divide roughly one-third of the area themselves, but this is simply not their area of expertise, and that section still needs some assistance to make sure it is properly and securely installed.

We now need help to:
🐾 Secure and finish the section already started
🐾 Divide the remaining area into two additional camps
🐾 Install the palisades and poles securely

We already have the materials – what we desperately need is the LABOUR and expertise.

These camps don't need to be fancy. They are temporary spaces that will allow us to get more dogs out of their kennels during the day, especially while we work towards raising enough funds to complete our larger ClearVu-fenced park in the middle.

We are currently facing a serious overcrowding crisis, so every additional safe space we can create makes a huge difference.

⏰ We would really, really appreciate it if this could be completed BEFORE FRIDAY, ahead of our event.

If you are a fencing contractor, handyman, builder, welder, or simply have the necessary experience and are willing to donate your labour, PLEASE reach out to us as soon as possible.

We have the materials.
We have the space.
We have the dogs who desperately need it. 🐶

We just need some helping hands to make it happen. ❤️

🐾 MEET TITAN — LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT HOME 🐾

Titan has been with us for quite some time, and his story started with a chase — literally. ❤️

Before Titan came into our care, he was roaming around the Potchefstroom Hospital area. He was incredibly scared and would run whenever anyone tried to approach him. Our team spent weeks trying to catch him, and when the day finally came, it took us nearly two hours to safely get him.

Despite being found in good physical condition, nobody ever came forward to claim him.

Since then, our staff have spent a lot of time working with Titan, slowly earning his trust and allowing his real personality to come through. Recently, we discovered something quite special — Titan responds to Setswana words! This makes us wonder whether someone in his previous home may have communicated with him in Setswana.

Now, this handsome boy is finally ready to start looking for a home. 🏡💙

Titan is sterilised, but his adoption process will be a little different from our usual adoptions. Because of his history, his trust issues and his tendency to escape and run, we will be extremely strict about where he goes.

His potential family will need a very secure, properly fenced property, and this will be carefully assessed during the home check. We also don't want someone to meet Titan once and simply take him home.

We want his adopter to come spend time with him at Paws Haven first, get to know him and start building his trust. If we feel that there is a connection and the home check is successful, Titan will then go on a foster/trial period before the adoption is finalised.

Titan doesn't need someone who expects him to trust immediately. He needs someone patient enough to earn it. ❤️

And once this boy decides you're his person, we think getting to watch that bond develop will be something very special.

🐾 FAREWELL, MICHELLE 🐾

Today we say goodbye to Michelle, who has been part of the Paws Haven team for the past year and was part of Paws Animal Welfare Society for many years before.

During her time with us, Michelle was well known as our “Cat Lady”, spending much of her time caring for the cats at the shelter. 🐱

As Michelle now steps away from Paws Haven and heads into retirement, we would like to thank her for the time and contribution she has made to animal welfare over the years.

We wish you all the best for the next chapter, Michelle, and hope you enjoy your retirement.

This little girl was found in our emergency kennels this morning at Paws Haven.

We would really like to find out where she belongs. If this is your dog, or you recognise her and know who her owners are, please contact Paws Haven as soon as possible.
