The kidneys work hard every day to filter waste and keep your pet healthy. Choosing the right diet can help support normal kidney function, especially in senior pets or those with kidney concerns.

Look for diets that provide:
• Controlled phosphorus levels
• High-quality, highly digestible protein
• Omega-3 fatty acids
• Added moisture (wet food can help increase water intake)
• Antioxidants to support overall health

If your pet has been diagnosed with kidney disease, always feed a veterinary-recommended kidney diet. Speak to your veterinarian before making any dietary changes.

Keep an eye on noses and eyes this winter.

A little clear nasal discharge can be normal on cold mornings, but yellow or green discharge is often a warning sign of a respiratory infection that needs attention.

👀 Watery or runny eyes may indicate pinkeye, dust irritation, or other eye infections—all of which can become more common and spread more easily during winter.

Catching these signs early can help prevent more serious illness and reduce production losses.

Winter is peak season for respiratory disease. Make sure your herd's vaccinations and booster doses are up to date to provide the best protection when animals are most vulnerable.

Not sure whether what you're seeing is normal or a sign of disease? The Morvet team is here to help.

Did you know pets can catch winter respiratory infections too?

During the colder months, cases of kennel cough in dogs and cat flu in cats tend to increase. While the occasional sneeze isn't usually a concern, persistent coughing, repeated sneezing, lethargy, or thick green nasal discharge should never be ignored.

Early treatment can help prevent complications and get your furry friend back to feeling their best.

💙 Morvet Tip: Vaccination is your pet's best defence. Make sure your dog's kennel cough vaccination and your cat's core vaccinations are up to date before winter bugs strike.

Visit your nearest Morvet branch for advice on winter respiratory health and vaccination support.

A healthy winter starts with prevention.

WHAT'S REALLY IN YOUR PET'S FOOD?
Nutrition for Senior Pets

As our pets age, their nutritional needs change too. Feeding a quality senior diet can help them stay healthier, more active, and happier for longer.

Look for these ingredients:
• Easily digestible, high-quality protein
• DHA & Omega-3 fatty acids to support brain health
• Glucosamine & Chondroitin for ageing joints
• Antioxidants such as Vitamins C & E to support immunity
• Added fibre to promote healthy digestion

Growing older doesn't have to mean slowing down. Choosing the right food can make a world of difference.

Watch how your animals stand and move.

An animal that is hunched, reluctant to move, lagging behind, or standing away from the herd is often telling you something is wrong.

These are some of the earliest visible signs of cold stress, illness, injury, or pain. Spotting them early can make all the difference.

If you notice these signs, isolate the animal and assess it immediately. Early intervention not only improves the animal's chance of recovery but also helps reduce the risk of disease spreading through the herd.

Don't forget winter vaccination boosters!

Winter is one of the easiest times to fall behind on vaccination schedules, but skipping a booster can leave your herd vulnerable when immunity is needed most. Review your vaccination programme and make sure every booster is given on time.

Not sure what you're seeing or whether your vaccination programme is on track? The Morvet team is here to help.
