This week we were on the farm doing some cattle work.

The recent Foot and Mouth outbreak has been incredibly concerning and to prevent further spread, vaccination has been implemented.

Here are some interesting facts about Foot and Mouth:

- Foot and Mouth can effect any cloven (two toed) animals including goats, sheep, cattle and pigs.

- It spreads through droplets often on clothing, vehicles and people, making spread quite rapid.

- It is not the same as Foot and Mouth in humans.

- Vaccination is the only effective prevention and includes all effected species.

- Transport of cloven animals is currently prohibited within effected areas without a permit.

🐾 One of the best parts of our job... seeing our patients happy and healthy again! ❤️

While attending to a call in New Brighton yesterday, we decided to make a quick stop and check in on one of our patients that we assisted last week.

When we arrived, we waited at the gate... but she didn't come running out to greet us as she normally would.

Our hearts immediately sank.

Worried that something may have happened, we quickly phoned her owner.

To our relief, he laughed and reassured us that she was perfectly fine—she had decided it was simply far too cold outside and was curled up inside, snuggling with his daughter to keep warm. 🥰

A few moments later they came out to the gate, her tail wagging, and so excited to see us again. It reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

After a week filled with heartbreaking cruelty cases and difficult situations, moments like these mean more than words can describe. They remind us that every rescue, every treatment and every act of kindness truly makes a difference.

Seeing her safe, healthy and loved was the perfect ending to our visit.

Thank you to everyone who supports AACL PE and makes stories like this possible. Together, we're changing lives—one animal at a time. 💚🐾

TOO MANY CATS. TOO FEW HOMES.

Every day, animal welfare organisations, rescuers and caregivers are faced with the same heartbreaking reality: there are simply too many kittens being born and not enough homes for them.

The number of unsterilised cats has reached a crisis point. Shelters are overwhelmed, rescue spaces are full, and resources to assist feral colonies are stretched beyond their limits.

Many people believe that finding homes for kittens will be easy, but the truth is that thousands of unwanted kittens are born every year. Many face lives of hunger, disease, injury and suffering.

This is not a problem that animal welfare organisations can solve alone.

The solution starts with responsible pet ownership.

✔ Sterilise your female cats before they have a litter.
✔ Sterilise your male cats to prevent unwanted breeding.
✔ Encourage friends, family and neighbours to do the same.
✔ Support sterilisation programmes in your community.

Every cat sterilised today helps prevent countless kittens from being born into a life of uncertainty and hardship tomorrow.

Please don't wait until there are kittens. Prevention is always kinder than rescue.

Be responsible.
Sterilise your cats.
Help reduce suffering.

Together, we can make a difference.
