Pyometra 🐶🐱 ⬇

Pyometra is a serious, painful, life-threatening infection of the uterus seen in unspayed female dogs and cats. It can develop quickly and requires urgent veterinary treatment - often emergency surgery.

🚨 Common signs may include:
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting
• Increased thirst or urination
• A swollen abdomen
• Vaginal discharge (not always present)

Why is spaying so important? ‼️
Pyometra develops in the uterus after repeated heat cycles due to hormonal changes. Spaying removes the uterus and ovaries, which means pyometra cannot develop. Preventative spaying not only avoids a potentially life-threatening emergency, but also removes the risks and costs associated with emergency surgery and intensive treatment later in life.

Meet Lego 👁️🐾

Lego recently came in to have his eye surgically removed (enucleation) after developing severe glaucoma. Glaucoma is a painful condition caused by increased pressure inside the eye, and unfortunately in Lego’s case, the eye could no longer be saved.

While losing an eye can sound scary, enucleation is often the kindest option to relieve chronic pain and improve quality of life. The good news is that pets adapt incredibly well and are usually much happier once the discomfort is gone.

Lego was an absolute star throughout his procedure and recovery, and we’re happy to report that he is now recovering well at home with lots of love and cuddles.❤️
