We Are Still Continuing Our Feeding Programme

Despite the many challenges we face, we are still committed to continuing our feeding programme in the informal settlement.

Every day we make sure that the animals who have little or no access to food receive something to eat. Many of these animals depend on us and stopping is simply not an option when we know there are hungry animals waiting for us.

This work is only possible because of the kindness and support of people who believe in what we do. Every bag of dog food, every donation and every helping hand makes a difference.

We may be a small shelter with limited resources but together we can continue making a difference, one hungry animal at a time.

Our food stock is already running low again, and we are now left with only 3 bags of dog food for all our hungry fur babies.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who recently donated and helped us receive 7 bags of 20kg Montey&Me dog food. Your support gave us some much-needed relief, but with so many dogs to feed every day, the food goes quickly.

Our shelter is located in an area where there is no public transport, making it very difficult for our staff, children and volunteers to travel to and from the shelter.

Many of our volunteers come from nearby informal settlements and rely on public transport or lifts to reach us. Unfortunately because there is no public transport coming directly to the shelter, getting here can be a major challenge.

At the moment, we only have single-cab bakkies and we have sometimes had to transport people at the back of the bakkie. We know this is not safe or appropriate, especially when it comes to transporting children, staff and volunteers.

We are urgently looking for a 7 seater vehicle or even a small, reliable car that can safely transport:

• Our staff
• Children attending our Educenter
• Our volunteers
• Community members participating in our programmes

A vehicle would make a huge difference to our daily operations and would allow our staff and volunteers to travel to the shelter safely.

If you have a 7-seater or small vehicle that you would consider donating, or if you can assist us in purchasing a reliable second hand vehicle please reach out to us.

We are not looking for anything fancy we just need something safe, reliable and affordable to maintain.

Please share our appeal. Someone out there may have a vehicle they no longer use that could make a life changing difference to our shelter.

Today we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Samantha Hurst and her sister for spending time with the children at Soshanguve Animal Shelter And Educenter and teaching them the joy of art and creativity.

Samantha comes to our shelter every month to share her time, skills and love with the children. Her dedication means so much to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the positive impact she continues to make.

And of course a huge thank you for the delicious muffins and buns with eggs. The children absolutely loved them.

Thank you for not only giving your time but also for creating beautiful memories and making our children feel special.

Today we received a call about a rock monitor that had somehow made its way inside a house in Mabopane.

Our team responded and managed to safely rescue the monitor. Thankfully it was not injured and appeared to be in good condition.

After the rescue, we transported the rock monitor to Onderstepoort Wildlife Rehabilitation, where it will receive the necessary care and assessment before being released back into a suitable natural environment.

Every animal deserves a chance to return home safely.

A big thank you to the community member who contacted us instead of harming the animal.

We responded to a stray dog at Sefako Makgatho University (MEDUNSA) who was found with a severely injured leg.

We rushed him to receive the help he desperately needed, hoping that we could save him and give him a chance at a better life. Sadly after assessing the condition of his leg, it was clear that the injury was far too severe. His suffering could not be relieved and the heartbreaking decision was made to put him to sleep.

We are devastated. Every rescue reminds us of how much suffering is out there, and how urgently these animals need help.

We may not have been able to save his life, but we are grateful that he was not left to suffer alone. He was shown kindness, received care and had someone fighting for him until the very end.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educenter has officially launched a brand new fundraiser with LiveGood Fundraising.

It is that time of the month again when we reach out to our amazing community for support to help us keep our shelter running.

Every single day, we rescue, feed, protect and care for abandoned, neglected and vulnerable animals. Behind every rescue is fuel, food, veterinary care, staff, shelter and countless hours of hard work and we simply cannot do it alone.

This month we are once again raising funds towards staff salaries, fuel for rescues, rent, insurance and other daily operating costs.
