The Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital, is situated in the beautiful suburb of Newlands, in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, Western Cape. This includes medicine, surgery, dentistry, physical rehabilitation, micro-chipping, exotic animal care, and limited grooming and boarding services for your pet. Our emphasis is on preventative medicine, but we are staffed and equipped to provide for most any ill

ness, injury, or concern. We will provide you with clear recommendations and then help you make the best decision for your pet’s healthcare needs by explaining each option. We are here to serve you and your pet and provide you the quality of service you want and deserve. The on-site staff will help you in our Veterinary Retail shop with all your requirements. If we don't have it we will source it. Our vets travel throughout Cape Town, from the Peninsula and the Southern Suburbs to the Northern Suburbs and further. We want the best standards of healthcare for our own pets and we aim to provide that same standard for our patients. 🐴💙 Working together to improve equine welfare.

We're proud to have had Dr Bart represent Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital alongside the Horse Protection Association (CHPA) for a day dedicated to improving the welfare of working and non-working horses.

During the visit, Dr Bart performed six gelding procedures, helping to improve the health, welfare, and long-term wellbeing of these horses.

Gelding plays an important role in:
🐴 Promoting responsible horse ownership
🐴 Reducing uncontrolled breeding and in-breeding
🐴 Helping stallions become calmer and easier to handle
🐴 Improving the welfare of both horses and the communities they serve

Together, we're creating healthier horses and supporting responsible equine care—because every horse matters. 💙

This lovely girl recently visited our CSSV surgical team for her post-operative check-up after undergoing surgery to repair the cause of weakness in her back legs.

She was referred to us by her local veterinarian after struggling with mobility, and today, we're thrilled to see the progress she's making. From tentative first steps to growing stronger each day, her recovery has been incredible to watch.

A successful recovery is always a team effort, and we'd like to commend her wonderful owners for their dedication and commitment to her rehabilitation at home. Your patience, love, and hard work are making all the difference. 💙

We're so proud of how far she's come and can't wait to see her continue to regain her strength—one step at a time. 🐾

🐾 Not every toy ends up where it's supposed to...

This little mini KONG ball may look harmless, but after being swallowed by a curious pup, it became a medical emergency.

Thanks to Dr. Bebbington and our dedicated veterinary team, the ball was successfully removed, and we're happy to report that this brave patient is on the road to recovery. 💙

🦴 Toy Safety Tips for Pet Owners:
✔️ Choose toys that are the appropriate size for your pet—they should be too large to swallow.
✔️ Always supervise playtime, especially with new toys.
✔️ Regularly inspect toys for signs of wear and tear and replace damaged ones.
✔️ Select durable toys suited to your pet's chewing habits and size.

🚨 If you suspect your pet has swallowed a foreign object, don't wait.
Contact your veterinarian immediately.

Signs to watch for include:
• Vomiting or repeated retching
• Loss of appetite
• Drooling
• Lethargy
• Abdominal discomfort
• Straining to pass stools or an inability to pass stools

⚠️ Do not try to induce vomiting unless specifically instructed to do so by your veterinarian. In some cases, this can make the situation worse.

Early intervention can make all the difference and may help prevent life-threatening complications.

Our team recently welcomed the much-loved resident cat from the Cart Horse Protection Association for a visit. While he's known for being incredibly lovable, he certainly lets you know when he's had enough cuddles! 😸

Dr. Steyn performed a thorough examination and ran the necessary tests. For now, he'll be closely monitored while we keep a careful eye on his progress.

We're proud to support the Carthorse Protection Association in caring for the animals that are such an important part of their community.
