Today, our team swapped plain socks for bright colours in support of Mental Health Awareness. As healthcare professionals, doctors dedicate their lives to caring for others, often placing their own wellbeing last.

Mental health matters for everyone — including those who spend their days looking after patients. Taking care of ourselves is not a luxury; it's an essential part of providing the best care possible.

To all the doctors, veterinarians, nurses, support staff, and healthcare workers: thank you for the compassion, dedication, and resilience you show every day. Remember that your wellbeing matters too.

The weather outside is cold, wet, and a bit dangerous, so it’s important to keep both your family and furry companions safe and warm this winter. 💙

Here are a few simple ways to help your pets stay comfortable during the colder months:

🔥 Keep them warm
- Provide warm bedding away from drafts
- Use pet jerseys or jackets for short-haired pets
- Bring pets indoors during extreme weather
- Make sure they always have access to fresh water

🎾 Beat the winter boredom
Cold weather can mean less outdoor time, so try keeping busy indoors with:

- Treat puzzle toys
- Hide-and-seek games
- Short training sessions
- Tug toys and gentle play
- Enrichment activities

🐾 Remember:
Older pets, puppies, kittens, and short-haired breeds may feel the cold more and often need extra warmth and care during winter.

Stay safe, stay warm, and give your pets an extra cuddle from all of us here at Blue Cross. 💙❄️

Henry certainly knew how to make his appointment the main event of the day 🐑

Dr. Triegaardt was delighted to visit Henry for a thorough on-farm check-up. From wellness assessments to herd health support, we’re committed to bringing experienced veterinary care right to where it’s needed most.

It’s always a privilege working with animals like Henry—still full of character, still keeping everyone on their toes, just with a little extra wisdom (and a slightly slower pace these days).

Thank you for trusting us with your animals’ care 💛

🏷️ Why Microchipping Your Pet Matters 🐾

A collar can fall off. Tags can fade. But a microchip stays with your pet for life.

Every week, lost pets are brought in to a vet with no collar, no microchip, and no way to contact their owners. A microchip gives your pet the best chance of being identified quickly and safely if they ever go missing.

Microchipping is:
✔ Quick and simple
✔ Safe and permanent
✔ Affordable
✔ The most reliable form of identification

A microchip is only the size of a grain of rice, but it can make a life-changing difference when a lost pet is found.

Please remember:
• Microchipping is only effective if your contact details are kept up to date
• Indoor pets should be microchipped too
• Collars and tags are helpful, but they should never replace a microchip
• You can visit your vet to have your pet’s microchip scanned and checked

It doesn’t cost anything to pop in and have your pet scanned to confirm their microchip is working and linked to the correct contact details.

If your details have changed, updating them could make all the difference in getting your pet home safely.

Microchipping helps make sure they have the best chance of finding their way back to you. 🐶🐱

If your pet is not microchipped, or you’d like to check that their chip is registered and up to date, speak to our team or visit us for a quick scan.
