🚨 DURBAN: History is in the making!
🐾Thanks to your incredible support, the working committee has adopted DAWN’s draft by-law rewrite! Even bigger news: The Democratic Alliance (DA) has officially committed to tabling our proposal directly to the eThekwini Municipality Council!
We are pushing for a modernised framework that shifts the cost of animal enforcement onto non-compliant parties, making it completely cost-neutral for taxpayers while aggressively protecting our animals.
But politicians only move when the public stands up. To ensure council passes these historic reforms, we need to show them an undeniable wave of community support.
📢 THE ANIMAL RIGHTS MARCH
📅 Date: Sunday, 19 July 2026
⏰ Time: 9:30 AM
📍 Where: The Promenade at Battery Beach, Durban
🎒 What to bring: Your passion, family, friends, and loudest voices (plus your posters!)
🛑 What are we marching to change?
Our proposal establishes 5 Key Pillars of the 2026 By-Law Reform:
☑️Mandatory Sterilisation & Microchipping: Required at 6 months to humanely halt the stray crisis.
☑️Breeding Controls & Property Limits: Strict breeder licences to shut down backyard breeding.
☑️Total Residential Fireworks Ban: Banned in neighbourhoods and within specified distances from animal shelters, vet clinics, and nature reserves.
☑️Immediate Spot Fines: R1,000 to R15,000+ issued instantly by officials and recognised private welfare inspectors—with 30% of revenue going directly to registered rescues.
☑️Enforceable Minimum Care Standards: Failing to meet this basic duty of care is no longer just bad ownership, it will be recognised as an offence under the new framework.
