Something isn't quite right here 🤔

As much as we love the idea that every pup has a nice full tummy, there are limits and this patient came in with a stomach full of rocks!

Rocks are one of the more common objects that dogs ingest when they really shouldn't; usually when grease and other bits of fat are tossed from the braai onto the nearby decorative pebbles! Some dogs, however, just leave us asking, "but why?!".

Signs your dog may have a foreign body can vary greatly depending on the degree of obstruction, location, duration and type of foreign body; but often include vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, diarrhoea and abdominal discomfort. A quick xray, and sometimes abdominal ultrasound, can often confirm the diagnosis and we can get the patient treated and into theater if necessary.

Any guesses as to what breed of dog may have done this? We will share the guilty face soon!

An introduction to our amazing nursing team!

The nursing team is made up of nurses Kirstin and Thembelihle, and animal health technicians Monika and Bianca. Together, they are the glue behind the scenes! From collecting bloods, setting up drips, taking xrays, monitoring patients under sedation and general anaesthesia, giving medication, applying bandages, dispensing medication, providing endless cuddles, TLC and so much more; our vets couldn't do what they do without our nursing team!

While the team and their roles have been accurately represented, we've have had some fun with the images. The backgrounds and other illustrations may not accurately depict the hospital.

UPDATE: OWNER FOUND!

FOUND 12 OCTOBER 2026 PROTEA ROAD SUN VALLEY

This older lady has been brought in to us after she was found looking a little stressed in the road. She is spayed and has a microchip but unfortunately it isn't registered so we have no way of contacting her people.

Please pop in to the clinic or call 011 318 2340 if you recognize her.

There honestly aren't enough words to describe the lengths, breadths, widths and depths our incredible team of nurses go to for our hospital.

The heroes behind the scenes; working magic by keeping multiple doctors (with all their individual preferences!) happy, running bloods and other diagnostics, taking radiographs, prepping patients for theater and other procedures, monitoring anaesthetics, treating patients and making sure they are comfortable and settled, picking up on all the small changes in their physical and mental well-being, ordering products and keeping the pharmacy well stocked all while ensuring the hospital runs smoothly and staying on top of all the admin! The queens of multi-tasking, treat dispenser extraordinaires, not afraid of the spicy cat or worried about the accidental puddle or mystery stain; owners of too many pens and always a shoulder to cry on during those tough times.

We take our hats off to you!

It takes a very special kind of person to do this every day. Between our nurses and animal health technicians; we are so grateful for our incredible nursing team who often go above and beyond, eager to learn and always ready to advocate for their patients.

To Sr Kirstin and Monika, who have been with us since 2018, and our newer team members Sr Thembe and Bianca; thank you. We truly appreciate everything you do for us.

It has been a while since we have introduced our team, so we would like to introduce you to the new faces at Blue Hills Veterinary Hospital and share a few words about the familiar ones who have been part of the team for a number of years.

Starting off with the lovely ladies at reception; the first line of communication and the friendly faces you see when you arrive.

Please meet Callan, Jeanne, Cait-Lynn and Mpho! Click on each photo to read a little bit more about the wonderful ladies manning the front desk.

While our team and their roles have been accurately represented, we've had a little fun so the backgrounds you seen have been digitally created and may not accurately reflect the hospital appearance and facilities.
