Before power tools, before forges with electric blowers, before any of the modern conveniences we take for granted, there was the anvil. And honestly, it hasnāt changed much in thousands of years, because it didnāt need to.
The earliest anvils date back to the Bronze Age, simple stone blocks used to shape metal. By the Iron Age, blacksmiths had moved to iron and steel anvils, closer to what we still use today.
The London pattern anvil, the one most farriers recognise instantly with its horn, face, and hardy hole, was refined in the 1800s and has barely been touched since. Why mess with something that already works?
Every shoe we shape starts here. The horn curves the steel, the face gives you a flat working surface, and the whole thing is built to take a beating for decades without flinching.
Itās not flashy. Itās not new. It just works, every single day, every single cycle. Kind of like the job itself.
