Fine-tuning the approach for the individual horse. 🐴
In remedial farriery, there isn’t one solution that works for every horse — the aim is to understand what each individual hoof needs and choose the most appropriate approach. ⚖️
For this horse, we started with a 3D pad setup. It’s a valuable tool, but as we monitored the hoof, we felt the frog on the left front, which was the flatter of the two feet, wasn’t responding as dynamically as we wanted.
So, rather than sticking with the original plan, we adapted. 🔧
We changed to a frog support insert with a leather pad to provide more targeted support, while the left front received a 2-degree wedge pad to address the angle of the foot and help improve load distribution.
Now we’ll track the hoof and the horse’s response over the coming visits and use that information to determine whether we stay with this approach or make further adjustments. 📈
That’s a big part of remedial farriery: assess, make an informed decision, monitor the response and adapt when needed.
