Sommige dae moet ek by 'n kolonie gaan sit en net dophou – vir nuwe katte, siek katte, of soos in hierdie geval, omdat Shelley twee jong katjies daar gesien het.
Hierdie kolonie is op 'n plek waar daar tans niemand is wat die katte gereeld kan monitor nie, daarom is dit belangrik dat ons van tyd tot tyd gaan kyk hoe dit met hulle gaan.
Net voor donker moes ek ongelukkig huis toe gaan, al het ek nog nie al die katte gesien nie. Die area is nie veilig nie, en mens moet versigtig wees.
Tog was dit lekker om weer van die bekende gesiggies raak te sien. Ons stap 'n lang pad saam met hierdie katte. Dit begin met vang, toets en steriliseer. Daarna sorg ons weekliks vir kos en skoon water.
Die plek waar hulle bly, is verlate en oorgroei. Nuwe katte skuil maklik tussen die bosse en lang gras, en daarom is dit nie altyd maklik om almal op te spoor nie.
Ek gaan die naweek weer laatmiddag daar sit totdat ek hopelik elkeen gesien het. Ongelukkig is dit nie altyd moontlik om gereeld daar uit te kom nie. Ons het min hande en die week is altyd besig.
Wat my vandag laat glimlag het, was die baie leë bokse wat langs die voerstasie lê. Al is hierdie wilde straatkatte, is hulle steeds katte – en katte hou van bokse! Ek kan net indink hoe hulle daarin klim, wegkruip en speel.
Een van die katte het 'n groot plakker aan die kant van sy lyf gehad. Hy het dit seker iewers opgetel toe hy in een van die bokse geklim het. Terwyl hy die sagte kos geniet het wat ek vir hom gebring het, het die plakker beweeg elke keer as hy beweeg. Dan ruk hy sy lyfie en kyk verbaas agter hom om te sien wat hom volg.
Siestog... ek wou so graag daardie plakker vir hom afhaal.
🐾❤️ Soms is dit die klein oomblikke wat mens weer herinner hoekom ons aanhou. Elke kat wat ons leer ken, elke gesiggie wat opdaag vir kos, elke nuwe dag wat hulle veilig deurkom – dit alles maak die moeite werd.
