โ˜•๐Ÿพ Morning observations from the Sanctuary...

Dumbledore has positioned himself next to a coffee mug that proudly declares:

"Obsessive Cat Disorder."

We are pleased to report that he feels personally represented.

As Dumbledore gazed thoughtfully beside the mug this morning, we couldn't help but wonder if he thought it was a diagnosis... or simply a lifestyle.

Either way, we're fairly certain he has no intention of seeking treatment.

And honestly, neither do we. โค๏ธ

"MINI" STERILISATION CLINIC NR 2 OF 2026 โ€“ 3 JUNE 2026
The Lucky Lucy Foundation in conjunction with Bergzicht Dierehospitaal, Malmesbury

Sometimes the most important things happen with very little notice, a lot of determination and people with hearts big enough to say "yes" when it matters most.

Over the past few weeks, we received an overwhelming number of requests from community members needing assistance to have their cats sterilised. As the requests continued to grow, we knew that waiting was simply not an option. Every day that passes can mean another unwanted litter, another cycle of suffering and more animals entering a world already struggling to care for them.

With time working against us and our schedules already stretched to capacity, we approached our incredible veterinary team at Bergzicht Dierehospitaal with a hopeful request: would they be willing to accommodate a special morning sterilisation session for us? Without hesitation, Dr Maryke said yes.

Within just five days, a plan was put into action to ensure that the most critical cases could receive the help they desperately needed.

Wednesday morning started long before sunrise. Carriers, transport arrangements, confirmations and checklists all had to come together to ensure that every community cat booked for sterilisation was safely at the clinic before our veterinary team arrived.

And once again, what seemed almost impossible became possible.

This "mini" clinic may have been smaller in size, but its impact will be felt for years to come. Every cat sterilised represents countless future kittens that will never have to face hunger, disease, neglect, abandonment or life on the streets.

(1) Spay of Female Cats โ€“ 11
(2) Neutering of Male Cats - 12
(3) Flea treatments administered - 7
TOTAL CATS STERILISED = 23

Sterilisation remains one of the most powerful tools available to us in addressing the overpopulation crisis facing companion animals. It is not simply a veterinary procedure, it is an act of compassion, responsibility and prevention.

We often speak about rescuing animals already suffering, but the reality is that preventing suffering before it starts is equally important. Every sterilisation performed is a step toward a future where fewer animals are born only to struggle for survival.

A heartfelt thank you goes to:
๐Ÿ™ Dr Maryke, Dr Anja and Mariaan from Bergzicht Dierehospitaal for once again opening your doors and your hearts to support this vital initiative.

๐Ÿ™ Every family and community caregiver who made the decision to sterilise their cats and who entrusted us with their beloved animals.

๐Ÿ™ Our donors, supporters and volunteers whose generosity makes clinics like these possible. Your support continues to create real and lasting change in the lives of animals who cannot speak for themselves.

There are days when it feels as though there are simply not enough hours in the day to meet every need. Yet time and time again, when compassionate people come together with a shared purpose, remarkable things happen.

This was one of those days.

Together, one sterilisation at a time, we continue building a future with less suffering, fewer unwanted litters and more hope.

TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

UPDATE : FULLY SPONSORED - Thank you to each and everyone who made the sterilisation of this colony a reality - without you this would not have been possible. These cats will now be booked for their sterilisations as early as next week and we will definitely report on their progress.

PLEASE CONSIDER SPONSORING THE STERILISATION OF 3 MALE CATS AND 1 FEMALE CAT IN MOORREESBURG

๐Ÿ“ Area: Moorreesburg Business Premises (Western Cape)

Pieter recently reached out to us for urgent assistance with sterilising the feral cat colony at his workplace before the population grows beyond control.

As we all know, it doesn't take long for a small colony to expand. With 5 female cats and 3 male cats currently making up this little colony, the potential for rapid population growth is significant.

What makes this appeal so special is that Pieter and his wife have already committed to paying for the sterilisation of 4 of the female cats that they feed and care for every single day. Their willingness to invest their own resources demonstrates just how much they care about the wellbeing of these cats and their future.

We would love to stand alongside them and help make a lasting difference in the lives of the remaining cats.

While sterilising the females will address the population growth, it would be unfair to leave the males behind. Every cat deserves the opportunity to live a healthier, safer and more carefree life. Our boys deserve the chance to watch over their colony without constantly facing the pressures of territorial fighting and breeding-related stress.

Thanks to our wonderful veterinary partners, we have secured a special sterilisation rate. We now need to raise:

R450 for 1 female cat
R370 each for 3 male cats
Total still needed: R1,560

These cats are cared for, valued and wanted. When members of the public are willing to take responsibility and actively improve the lives of animals in their community, we believe it is important that we meet them halfway whenever possible.

Unfortunately, there is no animal welfare organisation in Moorreesburg that Pieter and his wife can turn to for assistance. We therefore hope that together we can help them complete this important project and prevent future suffering before it begins.

To make things even better, Glyn and Elana from our team have already volunteered to assist with the trapping and transport of these cats so that the sterilisations can be completed as quickly as possible.

All we need now is a little support from our amazing Lucky Lucy family. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to changing the future for these eight cats.

Together we can make a difference.

๐Ÿšจ MISSING CAT โ€“ FISH HOEK, CAPE TOWN ๐Ÿšจ
Please help us bring Rascal home.

Please share this post widely to help bring this special boy safely home.

Rascal was last seen during the early morning hours of Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at his new home in Upper Recreation Road, Fish Hoek, Cape Town.

He is a large, handsome ginger-and-white boy, almost 12 years old, and is new to the area. Rascal was recently adopted after the passing of his previous owner and may be frightened, confused and trying to find his way in unfamiliar surroundings.

Rascal is a Lucky Lucy Foundation kitty. He is neutered, microchipped and is already very much loved. Please check your garages, sheds, outbuildings, under decks and any sheltered spots where a scared cat may be hiding. Cats that find themselves in unfamiliar territory often remain close by and hide quietly rather than roam far.

If you have seen Rascal or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact us immediately.

For us, alCATraz has always been so much more than a cat sanctuary. It is a promise to every cat who arrives frightened, abandoned, unwanted, injure or forgotten that their story does not end there. It is a place where healing begins, where trust is rebuilt and where cats are given the opportunity to simply be cats again.

Reading this beautiful piece about alCATraz filled our hearts with pride, not because of what has been created, but because of what it represents.

Every pathway, every climbing structure, every sunny sleeping spot, every garden and every happy cat enjoying their freedom is a reflection of the kindness and generosity of people who chose to stand with us. We see the cats who arrived broken and learned to trust again. We see the elderly souls living out their golden years in comfort. We see lives changed.

To every person who has supported this journey, whether through donations, volunteering, sharing our stories or simply cheering us on from afar, please know that you are part of every success story that unfolds here.

We are incredibly proud of what alCATraz has become, but even more excited about what still lies ahead.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Weโ€™re absolutely convinced that if retirement villages for cats existed in their dreams, they would look a lot like this ๐Ÿ˜ป

In Malmesbury, there's a place called alCATraz, a sanctuary created specifically for older cats who deserve a soft place to land after spending too much of their lives just trying to survive.

And honestly... it's wonderful.

Think sunny spots, peaceful gardens, places to explore, places to nap, and all the comfort and care a cat could ask for. The sanctuary recently received a beautiful upgrade, and the photos of the residents enjoying their little slice of paradise are enough to make anyone smile.

Maybe that's why this story feels so special.

Because every animal deserves to know what safety feels like. Every animal deserves kindness. And there is something incredibly heartwarming about seeing older cats getting the chance to spend their golden years exactly as they should... relaxed, loved, and completely spoiled.

As it turns out, retirement looks pretty good.

We recently welcomed two very special little ladies into alCATraz ... Hennifer Lopez and Chicky Minaj.

And honestly โ€ฆ medication time in the garden has never been this entertaining before.

The moment they see us walking out with the medication bowls, these two girls immediately fall into formation like tiny furry bodyguards. They either marches proudly in front of you like they are leading the entire operation and then sometimes they will follow closely behind making sure absolutely no snacks are missed along the way.

Every stop we make, they make, every cat we medicate, they supervise and every bowl gets inspected with the seriousness of highly trained professionals.

Somewhere between the garden paths, the medication trays and the tiny paws weaving around our feet, these two girls have completely stolen our hearts.

It is moments like these that remind us how beautiful rescue truly is, watching these animals slowly become part of the daily rhythm, the routines, the laughter and the love of alCATraz.

Welcome to our family girls!

We stand very proud today ... THANK YOU to each and everyone for helping us creating this special place!

There is something incredibly special about watching a space transform into something filled with life, comfort, and happiness.

Our little outside area at alCATraz has recently undergone the most beautiful upgrade thanks to Nico, whose hard work, dedication and patience helped bring this vision to life. We also want to extend an extremely special THANK YOU to our absolutely amazing sponsors and donors who made this project possible. Without your kindness, this space would simply not exist.

When you stand back and watch the cats enjoying every single part of it ... exploring, sunbathing, climbing, playing, resting and simply existing peacefully, you realise just how incredibly lucky and blessed we are to be able to give these animals everything they deserve.

For so many of them, life was once only about survival. But alCATraz was created to give them something entirely different ... the freedom to explore, gardens to wander through, enrichment to stimulate their curious minds and a place of safety, peace and comfort.

In simple words you could say alCATraz is a place where they can simply be cats again.

We have decided to name this special little area โ€œThe Cuddle Puddle Loungeโ€ โ€” and honestly, the name could not be more fitting. ๐Ÿ˜นโค๏ธ

Not only because this space was created for love, comfort, companionship and those adorable cuddle puddles our kitties form together every single day โ€ฆ but also because after the recent storms, so much of this area got completely wet that โ€œpuddleโ€ suddenly became very appropriate too. โ˜”๐Ÿ˜…

To each and every donor who contributed so generously towards this project please know that you make our hearts overflow with gratitude. You are not simply helping us build structures; you are helping us create healing spaces, joyful memories and a sanctuary that changes lives.

We are almost finished with this area. There are still a few smaller tasks left to complete, but as we all know, work in alCATraz is never truly done.

One thing we can promise though is that we will continue working tirelessly to make sure this space becomes absolutely purrfect for every personality who chooses to spend time here.

THANK YOU for your support, kindness and generosity!

THANK YOU ... Nico Bruyns for being an ABSOLUTE BLESSING in our lives!

For years, we simply made do with what we had in our cat clinic. Blankets squeezed into tiny spaces, food packed wherever it could fit, clinic supplies stacked on top of one another while we struggled to reach what we needed. We adapted because that is what rescue teaches you to do, you keep going, even when things are not ideal.

And then came Nico Bruyns and his brother, Andre Bruyns.

Today, our clinic feels transformed, suddenly there is space ... space for blankets, food and all the important clinic items that help us care for our cats every single day. What once felt cramped and chaotic now feels organised, functional and peaceful.

We honestly do not think Nico fully realises the impact of what he has done for us.

But what made this even more special was watching him work through the constant โ€œsupervisionโ€ from our feline residents. ๐Ÿ˜น Little paws climbed all over him, inspected every item, played with tools, climbed into spaces they were definitely not supposed to be in and of course every kitty had their own opinion about how the cupboards should be installed.

And through all the chaos, Nico showed nothing but patience, kindness and gentleness toward these delightful little creatures with their adorable personalities.

Nico, thank you for embracing every interruption, every curious kitten and every furry โ€œassistantโ€ that crossed your path during this project. You have probably taught many of them an extra skill that they will proudly take with them for life, even if that skill is simply how to supervise a handyman with absolute confidence. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿพ

Just another very special thank you to Woodcentre Cape Town for our blanket cupboard and and our food cupboard - without your support this would not have been possible.

To have people like Nico and Andre standing beside us on this journey means more than words can ever express. Together, we are slowly creating a sanctuary that all of us can be proud of, a place built with compassion, dedication and love.

Thank you for believing in what we do!
We SALUTE YOU!

Today we once again ask for a little kindness for one of our very special forever kitties โ€” Mr Wiggles

Mr Wiggles is our precious Cerebellar Hypoplasia boy with the gentlest soul imaginable. Despite his wobbly little movements, he faces every day with courage, trust and so much love.

On Monday he had his first appointment and today he underwent the dental procedure he so desperately needed. As many of you know, dental care in animals is not cosmetic. Painful teeth and infections can affect their entire quality of life.

Winter is always one of the hardest seasons for rescue, with staggering veterinary bills piling up while so many families are also struggling financially. But our forever personalities still need the care they deserve and today we humbly ask for help with Mr Wigglesโ€™ veterinary bill.

Every single contribution, no matter how small, truly helps us continue caring for these special souls who have nowhere else to go.

If there is any way you could spare a donation towards his R1535 vet bill, we would appreciate it more than words can say.

Please remember that ALL donations to our organisation are tax deductible and a Section 18A tax certificate can be supplied on request.
