Lucky Lucy Foundation Changing lives one by one - with us they have time to trust and heal themselves again. My head must have been about a centimeter away from the track.

Lucky Lucy's Story:
My name is Lucky Lucy and I was tied to a railway line to be hit by a train. All I remember is that I was happy and playing, I was fed and didn’t go hungry. Perhaps my owner did love me at one stage cause I lived well and warm, I was clean and had friends to play with and I found a boyfriend and carried his babies, but then suddenly for some reason something changed in my owner

. He went looking for a strong rope, something that couldn’t snap or get loose and he took me with him, which I thought would be the usual stroll you go on with your owner. But then we were at the train tracks and he grabbed me, took my hind legs and stretched them out to be tied to my front legs, them my body stretched, was tied to the railway line. Then he took my head and tied it to the bolt that holds the track in place. Then he turned and walked away… didn’t even look back. I thought at first this must be a game but he disappeared. I didn’t know what was going on – then I felt the vibration and heard the noise… I saw this huge train coming at me and I couldn’t move… I tried with all my strength but I just couldn’t move…

The train went over my leg – my paw was gone and my muscle had been ripped from my already smashed bone. I didn’t feel any more… I just lay dead still and waited to die – a few more trains went over me… I just closed my eyes and hoped I would die soon to end this agony. Out of nowhere this man saw me, he screamed and ran away only to come back with two people. They jumped out of their car and cut my neck and paws from the ropes. I don’t know if my life was now going to be completely over cause who would want to keep me alive – in my state? They put me in their car and took me to the hospital. I heard the lady and man say “Hold on for us girl… don’t give up… we will help you”. Now I will try my best to pull through, I know they are asking everyone to pray for me, so I will pray for me too.

"MINI" STERILISATION CLINIC NR 2 OF 2026 – 3 JUNE 2026
The Lucky Lucy Foundation in conjunction with Bergzicht Dierehospitaal, Malmesbury

Sometimes the most important things happen with very little notice, a lot of determination and people with hearts big enough to say "yes" when it matters most.

Over the past few weeks, we received an overwhelming number of requests from community members needing assistance to have their cats sterilised. As the requests continued to grow, we knew that waiting was simply not an option. Every day that passes can mean another unwanted litter, another cycle of suffering and more animals entering a world already struggling to care for them.

With time working against us and our schedules already stretched to capacity, we approached our incredible veterinary team at Bergzicht Dierehospitaal with a hopeful request: would they be willing to accommodate a special morning sterilisation session for us? Without hesitation, Dr Maryke said yes.
Within just five days, a plan was put into action to ensure that the most critical cases could receive the help they desperately needed.

Wednesday morning started long before sunrise. Carriers, transport arrangements, confirmations and checklists all had to come together to ensure that every community cat booked for sterilisation was safely at the clinic before our veterinary team arrived.

And once again, what seemed almost impossible became possible.

This "mini" clinic may have been smaller in size, but its impact will be felt for years to come. Every cat sterilised represents countless future kittens that will never have to face hunger, disease, neglect, abandonment or life on the streets.

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠:
(1) Spay of Female Cats – 11
(2) Neutering of Male Cats - 12
(3) Flea treatments administered - 7
TOTAL CATS STERILISED = 23

Sterilisation remains one of the most powerful tools available to us in addressing the overpopulation crisis facing companion animals. It is not simply a veterinary procedure, it is an act of compassion, responsibility and prevention.

We often speak about rescuing animals already suffering, but the reality is that preventing suffering before it starts is equally important. Every sterilisation performed is a step toward a future where fewer animals are born only to struggle for survival.

A heartfelt thank you goes to:
🙏 Dr Maryke, Dr Anja and Mariaan from Bergzicht Dierehospitaal for once again opening your doors and your hearts to support this vital initiative.
🙏 Every family and community caregiver who made the decision to sterilise their cats and who entrusted us with their beloved animals.
🙏 Our donors, supporters and volunteers whose generosity makes clinics like these possible. Your support continues to create real and lasting change in the lives of animals who cannot speak for themselves.

There are days when it feels as though there are simply not enough hours in the day to meet every need. Yet time and time again, when compassionate people come together with a shared purpose, remarkable things happen. This was one of those days.

Together, one sterilisation at a time, we continue building a future with less suffering, fewer unwanted litters and more hope.

TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

🚨 MISSING CAT – FISH HOEK, CAPE TOWN 🚨
Please help us bring Rascal home.

Please share this post widely to help bring this special boy safely home.

Rascal was last seen during the early morning hours of Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at his new home in Upper Recreation Road, Fish Hoek, Cape Town.

He is a large, handsome ginger-and-white boy, almost 12 years old, and is new to the area. Rascal was recently adopted after the passing of his previous owner and may be frightened, confused and trying to find his way in unfamiliar surroundings.

Rascal is a Lucky Lucy Foundation kitty. He is neutered, microchipped and is already very much loved. Please check your garages, sheds, outbuildings, under decks and any sheltered spots where a scared cat may be hiding. Cats that find themselves in unfamiliar territory often remain close by and hide quietly rather than roam far.

If you have seen Rascal or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact us immediately.

For us, alCATraz has always been so much more than a cat sanctuary. It is a promise to every cat who arrives frightened, abandoned, unwanted, injure or forgotten that their story does not end there. It is a place where healing begins, where trust is rebuilt and where cats are given the opportunity to simply be cats again.

Reading this beautiful piece about alCATraz filled our hearts with pride, not because of what has been created, but because of what it represents.

Every pathway, every climbing structure, every sunny sleeping spot, every garden and every happy cat enjoying their freedom is a reflection of the kindness and generosity of people who chose to stand with us. We see the cats who arrived broken and learned to trust again. We see the elderly souls living out their golden years in comfort. We see lives changed.

To every person who has supported this journey, whether through donations, volunteering, sharing our stories or simply cheering us on from afar, please know that you are part of every success story that unfolds here.

We are incredibly proud of what alCATraz has become, but even more excited about what still lies ahead.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

We’re absolutely convinced that if retirement villages for cats existed in their dreams, they would look a lot like this 😻

In Malmesbury, there's a place called alCATraz, a sanctuary created specifically for older cats who deserve a soft place to land after spending too much of their lives just trying to survive.

And honestly... it's wonderful.

Think sunny spots, peaceful gardens, places to explore, places to nap, and all the comfort and care a cat could ask for. The sanctuary recently received a beautiful upgrade, and the photos of the residents enjoying their little slice of paradise are enough to make anyone smile.

Maybe that's why this story feels so special.

Because every animal deserves to know what safety feels like. Every animal deserves kindness. And there is something incredibly heartwarming about seeing older cats getting the chance to spend their golden years exactly as they should... relaxed, loved, and completely spoiled.

As it turns out, retirement looks pretty good.

A HUGE THANK YOU ... Brian and Michelle Gilbert for being absolutely AMAZING!

On behalf of the entire Lucky Lucy Canine Team, please accept our sincere and deepest appreciation for the absolutely amazing donation of 6 boxes of Probono dog biscuits and 6 x 20kg bags of Monty and Me dog food.

Thank you for helping us give the special dogs in our care something extra special. There is nothing quite like seeing tails wagging with excitement when they realise they are getting treats and delicious food made especially for them.

It truly warms our hearts when we are able to spoil them from time to time, especially knowing how many of these dogs have come from incredibly difficult circumstances before finding safety at our Sanctuary.
Food remains one of the biggest and most important expenses for any animal welfare organisation, and donations like these make a tremendous difference in helping us continue providing quality care to the animals who depend on us every single day.

We know that you have many choices when it comes to supporting organisations, and we are deeply grateful that you chose to support Lucky Lucy Foundation. Please know that we never take your kindness, trust, or generosity for granted. We promise to always use every donation responsibly and in the best interests of the animals in our care. Thank you once again for your compassion, commitment and kindness toward our cause. Supporters like you make it possible for us to continue changing lives — one bowl and one biscuit at a time.

A HUGE AND HEARTFELT THANK YOU ... Animal Anti-Cruelty League Cape Town

On behalf of the entire Lucky Lucy Team, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the absolutely amazing Animal Anti-Cruelty League in Epping for their incredibly generous dog food donation.

Thank you for sharing your food with us during a time when every bag truly makes a difference. Food is one of the single most important and ongoing expenses for any animal shelter and donations like these help us more than words can ever express.

Because of your kindness, we are able to put a little extra into each bowl, a little extra nourishment, comfort and happiness with delicious soft food added on top for our dogs to enjoy.

For many of the animals in our care, mealtimes are one of the highlights of their day and your generosity allows us to make those moments even more special.

Thank you for standing beside us and helping us continue caring for the vulnerable souls who depend on us every single day. Your support means the world to our Sanctuary, our team and most importantly, our animals.

Together, we are making a difference.
We SALUTE YOU!

A HUGE AND HEARTFELT THANK YOU .... to the special Villiers Loubser & his Family (Altona Farm)

On behalf of the entire Lucky Lucy Team, please accept our sincere and deepest appreciation for the absolutely amazing donation of yet another three huge straw bales for bedding on our dog side.

Villiers, we cannot begin to express how incredibly grateful we are to you for again sponsoring straw for our animals. Your unwavering support and kindness over the years have been nothing short of extraordinary - THANK YOU!

Something as simple as warm bedding may not seem like much to some, but during the icy cold and wet winter days and nights, it makes an enormous difference to the comfort and wellbeing of the dogs in our care. Thanks to your generosity, our dogs will be sleeping warm, dry, cozy and protected from the harsh winter weather.

Your donation helps us ensure that our Sanctuary remains a place where vulnerable animals can feel safe, loved and comfortable — even during the toughest seasons. There is a very special place in our hearts for amazing families like yours who continue to stand beside our Sanctuary during these challenging times. None of what we do would be possible without generous and compassionate supporters like you.

Just as your kindness knows no bounds, our gratitude toward you is endless. We wish you and your family only happiness, love and endless blessings. We thank you once again from the very bottom of our hearts. Together, we are making a difference. We SALUTE YOU!

We stand very proud today ... THANK YOU to each and everyone for helping us creating this special space!

There is something incredibly special about watching a space transform into something filled with life, comfort, and happiness.
Our little outside area at alCATraz has recently undergone the most beautiful upgrade thanks to Nico, whose hard work, dedication and patience helped bring this vision to life. We also want to extend an extremely special THANK YOU to our absolutely amazing sponsors and donors who made this project possible. Without your kindness, this space would simply not exist.

When you stand back and watch the cats enjoying every single part of it ... exploring, sunbathing, climbing, playing, resting and simply existing peacefully, you realise just how incredibly lucky and blessed we are to be able to give these animals everything they deserve.

For so many of them, life was once only about survival. But alCATraz was created to give them something entirely different ... the freedom to explore, gardens to wander through, enrichment to stimulate their curious minds and a place of safety, peace and comfort.

In simple words you could say alCATraz is a place where they can simply be cats again.

We have decided to name this special little area “The Cuddle Puddle Lounge” — and honestly, the name could not be more fitting. 😹❤️

Not only because this space was created for love, comfort, companionship and those adorable cuddle puddles our kitties form together every single day … but also because after the recent storms, so much of this area got completely wet that “puddle” suddenly became very appropriate too. ☔😅

To each and every donor who contributed so generously towards this project please know that you make our hearts overflow with gratitude. You are not simply helping us build structures; you are helping us create healing spaces, joyful memories and a sanctuary that changes lives.

We are almost finished with this area. There are still a few smaller tasks left to complete, but as we all know, work in alCATraz is never truly done.

One thing we can promise though is that we will continue working tirelessly to make sure this space becomes absolutely purrfect for every personality who chooses to spend time here.

THANK YOU for your support, kindness and generosity!
We SALUTE YOU!

Twelve years of Sven. 🤍

Our precious Sven recently celebrated his 12th birthday, and what a remarkable journey this gentle soul has had.

Sven lost his eyesight and his left eye due to glaucoma. He is also deaf and yet somehow, despite the darkness and silence he lives with every day, Sven continues to move through life with a quiet strength and grace that touches every heart around him.

He truly is one of our very special golden oldie boys. A soul who asks for so little… just love, comfort, safety and every now and then, his greatest joy in life ... a HUGE ostrich bone. 🦴

And when Sven has spoken, we obey as much as we possibly can.

If you ever visit us and would like to bring Sven a little spoil, he would be absolutely overjoyed with one of his beloved marrow bones. It is one of the few things that still lights up his whole world.

Special needs animals have a way of teaching us the deepest lessons about resilience, trust and unconditional love. Sven may no longer see or hear the world around him, but he feels kindness in every gentle touch, every familiar smell and every moment spent beside him.

Happy 12th birthday, sweet Sven. You are deeply loved, endlessly cherished and one of the most special boys we could ever hope to know.

If you want to become Sven's special Guardian Angel for as little as R100 per month (or more) and helping us make sure we can get him his special marrow bone then please email us at [email protected] and we will send you all the details as how to sign up.

THANK YOU ... Nico Bruyns for being an ABSOLUTE BLESSING in our lives!

For years, we simply made do with what we had in our cat clinic. Blankets squeezed into tiny spaces, food packed wherever it could fit, clinic supplies stacked on top of one another while we struggled to reach what we needed. We adapted because that is what rescue teaches you to do, you keep going, even when things are not ideal.

And then came Nico Bruyns and his brother, Andre Bruyns.
Today, our clinic feels transformed, suddenly there is space ... space for blankets, food and all the important clinic items that help us care for our cats every single day. What once felt cramped and chaotic now feels organised, functional and peaceful.

We honestly do not think Nico fully realises the impact of what he has done for us.

But what made this even more special was watching him work through the constant “supervision” from our feline residents. 😹 Little paws climbed all over him, inspected every item, played with tools, climbed into spaces they were definitely not supposed to be in and of course every kitty had their own opinion about how the cupboards should be installed.

And through all the chaos, Nico showed nothing but patience, kindness and gentleness toward these delightful little creatures with their adorable personalities.

Nico, thank you for embracing every interruption, every curious kitten and every furry “assistant” that crossed your path during this project. You have probably taught many of them an extra skill that they will proudly take with them for life, even if that skill is simply how to supervise a handyman with absolute confidence. 😅🐾

Just another very special thank you to Woodcentre Cape Town for our blanket cupboard and and our food cupboard - without your support this would not have been possible.

To have people like Nico and Andre standing beside us on this journey means more than words can ever express. Together, we are slowly creating a sanctuary that all of us can be proud of, a place built with compassion, dedication and love.

Thank you for believing in what we do!
We SALUTE YOU!

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our ANONYMOUS donor who is helping us build our 5th Braveheart Camp at our Dog Clinic!

The work has started ....
Today we would like to say a very special thank you to an incredible Anonymous Donor who is making it possible for us to build another Braveheart camp at our Dog Clinic.

This new space will consist of comfortable sleeping quarters, an undercover area for the warmer summer days and a small piece of garden where our dogs can enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

Slowly but surely, we are upgrading our clinic camps to create spaces where our older and special needs dogs can live with the comfort and dignity they deserve. Winter is always the hardest season for many of them, but we are working tirelessly to create warm, safe and peaceful areas where they can feel protected during both winter and summer.

The next phase will be enclosing the sleeping area to make it even more secure and comfortable for its future residents.

This extra camp will officially become the 5th camp in our Braveheart collection, our little village of love for the golden oldies and special souls who deserve softness after a lifetime of hardship.

To our Anonymous Donor ... THANK YOU for helping us build more than just structures. You are helping us create comfort, safety and healing.

If you would like to become involved in the makeover and upgrading of one of these Braveheart camps for our golden oldies, please send us an email at: [email protected].
We would love to share our plans and how you can become part of creating these beautiful spaces for the dogs who need them most.
