When you look at our Meal Plan you will see we have interspersed the Complete Minced meals with various “bony meals” like heads, necks, kneecaps etc, which is fantastic stimulation for dogs, together with other health benefits - chewing bones (the correct ones) releases endorphins in dogs, which in turn relaxes them, as well as cleans their teeth - surely you'll agree this is a great bonus. Never ever feed your dogs any weight bearing bones from a butcher or any cooked bones. Dogs were not meant to digest these and their digestive system cannot cope. Did You Know Friday

Two pet foods can both contain excellent ingredients but be intended to do very different jobs.

A complete food is designed to provide all the nutrients required as the animal's daily ration when fed as directed. A complementary food is intended to be fed alongside other food and does not, on its own, necessarily provide the complete daily nutrient requirement.

This distinction matters when you're buying things such as:
🥩 meals
🦴 chews
🥚 toppers
🥛 broths
🐟 supplementary foods

FEDIAF's current nutritional guidelines explicitly distinguish between complete and complementary pet foods.

So next time you're choosing something delicious for your dog, ask:
“Is this the meal… or something that goes WITH the meal?”

Raw feeding comes with something we don't think should be brushed aside:
food hygiene. Raw meat can carry potentially harmful bacteria and freezing does not reliably sterilise raw meat. People and pets can potentially be exposed through the food itself, contaminated utensils, surfaces or faeces.

So if you choose to feed raw, make these habits part of your routine:
1️⃣ Wash your hands.
Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling raw pet food.
2️⃣ Clean bowls, utensils and preparation surfaces.
Don't leave raw residue sitting around the kitchen.
3️⃣ Keep raw food appropriately chilled or frozen.
Maintain the cold chain and follow the manufacturer's storage and thawing instructions.
4️⃣ Prevent cross-contamination.
Be mindful of chopping boards, counters, sinks and utensils that come into contact with raw meat.
5️⃣ Be especially cautious in vulnerable households.
Young children, elderly people, pregnant people and anyone who is immunocompromised may face greater consequences from foodborne infection. WSAVA specifically highlights these households as higher risk.

Responsible raw feeding isn't about pretending risk doesn't exist.
It's about understanding it and managing it properly.
Good nutrition and good food hygiene belong in the same bowl. 🐾

🥩 Here's one distinction every pet parent considering raw feeding should understand.

“Raw” describes how food is prepared. It doesn't automatically tell you whether that food provides all the nutrients your dog needs.

A bowl containing meat, organs and a few attractive extras may look wonderfully wholesome but nutritional balance depends on much more than how good the bowl looks.

A complete diet needs to provide essential nutrients in appropriate amounts and proportions for the animal it is intended to feed. Nutritional guidelines exist specifically to help ensure complete pet foods meet dogs' requirements.

That's why one of the first questions you should ask when choosing any prepared raw food is:

👉 Is this intended as a complete diet or as a complementary food?

And then ask how the manufacturer has established its nutritional adequacy.

💩 POO SCHOOL | LESSON 1:
Jip, we’re starting the week talking Poo.

What colour was your dog's p**p today?

Be honest… do you actually look before you pick it up? 👀
You probably should. Colour can give you useful clues about what's happening in your dog's digestive system.

🤎 Brown is generally what we'd expect.
🟢 Green can sometimes follow grass-eating or diet changes.
🔴 Red may mean fresh blood.
⚫ Black, tarry p**p can indicate digested blood and needs veterinary attention.
⚪ Very pale stools or unusual white material deserve a closer look.

But here's the important part: you can't diagnose your dog by p**p colour alone. A change from what's normal for your dog, particularly when accompanied by vomiting, diarrhoea, appetite changes or lethargy, tells us much more.

💬 Be honest: are you an EVERY-POOP inspector or only when something looks suspicious? 😂

Here are 5 signs that raw feeding is actually working (save this for later):

Dry, dull fur is often the first thing raw feeding fixes. Within weeks, most owners notice a softer, shinier coat, no supplements needed.

Puppies bouncing, adults playful, seniors more comfortable on their feet. Real food = real energy.
