Thank-you to all our kennel sponsors and debit order donors, to those who have supported and attended our fundraising events and to those who have hosted an event for our SPCA; to those who have left a lasting legacy in your Will for the animals, to every person who donates their unwanted items for us to sell in our charity and thrift Shops, to every person who visits the animals to give them treats or donate toys to enrich their lives; to companies that donate goods or services and to every person that has given in one way or another or shared our message to others so that the animals stand a chance at a better life.

🌸 The prettiest Proteas you ever did see! 🌸

A massive thank you to Lisette and Struan from River Road Proteas River Road Proteas  for their incredibly generous donation of six batches of gorgeous Pin Cushion Proteas to the Kloof and Highway SPCA. 💛

These stunning blooms have been distributed to our various Thrift Shops and are now available for purchase at just R40 per bunch!

🐾❤️ Sometimes, a little help can change an animal’s whole life. ❤️🐾

On 19 August 2026, our Kloof and Highway SPCA team was conducting outreach in Molweni when we came across a little crossbreed puppy chained in the hot sun, with no shade, shelter or water. She was also suffering from a skin condition and was heavily infested with fleas.

Our team immediately stepped in. We provided parasite treatment, food, fresh water and blankets, moved her out of the sun and left a warning for her owner to contact us.

“Why didn't you just take the dog away?” Animal welfare is not always that simple. In communities where poverty is widespread, neglect is not always deliberate. Sometimes people simply don't have the knowledge, resources or access to veterinary care that they need. We have legislation that we must follow, and removal of an animal is not automatically justified simply because its circumstances are not ideal. We also have to consider the bigger picture. That does not mean that suffering should be ignored. It means we need to find constructive ways to stop the suffering

The owner contacted us.

She was grateful. She listened. She promised to try her best.

And then, on 1 September, we went back to check.

❤️ What we saw made our hearts happy.

The owner had listened to our advice.

The puppy now had:

🏠 A little wooden kennel the owner had built herself
🛏️ A blanket and cushion inside
💧 Food and water bowls
🐕 A long running line so she could safely move around the yard as they do not have a safe and secured yard.
🩺 Ongoing parasite treatment
🧼 Regular baths

And her skin condition had improved significantly.

Most importantly, we were greeted by a happy owner who was incredibly grateful for the help.

THIS is why outreach matters. ❤️

It is easy to say that people living in poverty shouldn't own animals. But poverty does not mean someone doesn't love their animal. For some people, their animals are their closest companions. They may simply need education, support and access to basic resources.

We believe owning an animal is a privilege, not a right. But when an owner is willing to learn and improve, sometimes the best thing we can do for the animal is help the owner become best owner they can be to care for them.

And that's exactly what happened here. 🐶❤️

🚪 We need to reach more animals.

If we aren't out there, we will never know about these animals.

That's why Kloof and Highway SPCA is starting weekly door-to-door proactive outreach in less privileged communities.

We are also planning mass sterilisation campaigns using mobile clinics, allowing us to reach and sterilise hundreds of animals who may otherwise never have access to veterinary care.

But we cannot do this without YOU.

🌿⛳ A Huge Thank You for an Incredible SPCA Golf Day! ⛳🌿

What a fantastic way to welcome Spring! On Friday, 28 August 2026, golfers, sponsors, supporters and friends came together for our Kloof and Highway SPCA Golf Day, proudly sponsored by Killarney Brick & Block

We were blessed with perfect weather, beautiful sunshine, clear blue skies, lush green fairways, and an atmosphere filled with laughter, friendship, and community spirit. Most importantly, everyone came together to support a cause close to our hearts: the animals of the Kloof and Highway SPCA. 🐾❤️

The day got off to the perfect start with a delicious hot or cold caffeine fix from Pam Golding Properties - Kloof, Hillcrest & Surrounds who kept everyone energised with coffee and their irresistible brownies. Golfers were also treated to refreshing fruit juices and invigorating Ginger Shots from Sir Fruit giving everyone an extra boost before heading out onto the course. The excitement continued throughout the day, with players enjoying wonderful prizes and ending on a nail-biting note as we drew the winner of our ever-popular Barrow of Booze! 🍻🎉
