π€π¦’ DID YOU KNOW? THE BLACK SWAN! π¦’π€
The Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) is one of the most distinctive waterbirds in the world. Originally from Australia π¦πΊ, these graceful birds are easily recognised by their dark plumage and striking red bill.
πΏ A FEW INTERESTING FACTS:
π€ Mostly black plumage β Their feathers are predominantly black, while the white flight feathers become especially noticeable when they spread their wings.
β€οΈ A striking red bill β Their bright red bill has a pale band near the tip, making them easy to identify.
π Made for life around water β Black Swans are commonly found on lakes, wetlands, rivers and other freshwater habitats.
π± Plant lovers β Their diet consists mainly of aquatic vegetation, grasses and other plant material. Their long necks help them reach plants beneath the water.
π₯ Dedicated parents β Black Swans build nests close to water, and both parents take part in caring for their young, known as cygnets.
π Strong pair bonds β Black Swans generally form long-term breeding pairs and work together to raise their young.
π¦’ FUN FACT: Black Swans are excellent swimmers, but they are also capable of long-distance flights. Large groups can sometimes be seen moving together between wetlands in search of food and suitable habitat.
