One of the biggest myths in veterinary medicine?
“If my pet isn’t limping, they’re fine.” 👀

In reality, many pets with joint pain due to Arthritis show signs long before limping ever starts.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Sleeping more
• Avoiding stairs
• Hesitating before jumping
• Slowing down on walks
• Taking longer to stand up after resting

Because these changes happen gradually, they are often brushed off as “normal ageing.”

But subtle changes in mobility can be your pet’s first way of telling you they are uncomfortable 🦴🐾

This reel may change the way you look at your pet’s daily behaviour forever.

Have you noticed any of these subtle signs in your pet lately? ⬇️

🐾 Meet the Team: Dr Farai Munjere 🩺

Meet Dr Farai Munjere, Head of the After-Hours Department at Fourways Vet Hospital.

With more than 23 years of experience in the veterinary industry, Dr Farai leads the team responsible for providing prompt and coordinated care during some of our patients' most critical moments.

Dr Farai has a special interest in initial emergency clinical work, consultations, patient work-ups, stabilisation, and early patient management before handing cases over to our Generalist and Specialist teams for further case management. He particularly enjoys the initial client liaison, setting a clear plan in motion, and ensuring patients receive prompt and coordinated care from the outset.

What Dr Farai enjoys most about his role is the unpredictability of after-hours work, where a wide variety of cases need to be managed and coordinated within resource constraints. He thrives in a fast-paced environment, where quick decision-making is essential to manage the many cases that can arrive within a short period of time. He particularly enjoys handling both medical and surgical emergencies and coordinating the work-up, stabilisation, and treatment of these cases.

As Head of Department, he values the opportunity to improve operational efficiency, promote teamwork within his department, coordinate with other teams across the practice, and contribute towards developing systems that support both patient care and staff performance. He is also passionate about encouraging the ongoing personal and professional development of his team members.

Outside of work, Dr Farai shares his home with two 12-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback sisters and two cats. 🐶🐶🐱🐱

He enjoys documentaries and podcasts on a wide range of topics, particularly those related to people, workplace behaviour, workplace psychology, and workflow management. He also enjoys reading about leadership and organisational dynamics. In his spare time, he follows sports closely, especially football! ⚽

His favourite part about working at Fourways Vet Hospital?

Balancing excellent patient care, customer care, and staff wellbeing. I strongly believe that staff wellbeing is essential for achieving high standards of patient and client care. I also value the practice's willingness to continuously evaluate systems and identify areas for improvement so that we can operate more efficiently, support our teams effectively, and continue striving towards overall excellence as a practice."

Please join us in showing Dr Farai some appreciation in the comments! 👇💙

For the past 18 years, Antonius has been a dedicated member of the Fourways Vet Hospital family, serving as one of our Kennel Assistants with commitment, compassion, and a genuine love for our patients.

Outside of work, Antonius enjoys watching soccer, listening to music 🎶, and keeping up with the latest news. He is also a proud father to a wonderful little boy and is excited about the future with his partner.

⏰ Reminder: There’s still time to make a difference this winter 🐾

🐾 Some pets won’t have a place to call home this winter.

Not in a warm home.
Not on a soft bed.
But in shelters, surrounded by people who care deeply for them, while they wait for their forever families. ❤️

This May, we have the opportunity to support the incredible organisations that show up for these animals every single day.

Through our Blanket Drive and Food Drive, every small act of kindness becomes something bigger.
A blanket becomes warmth.
A bag of food becomes comfort.
A donation becomes support for the teams working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Here’s how you can get involved:

🧺 Blanket Drive
We’ve purchased blankets that will be donated to shelters - and you can add to this!
• Simply purchase a blanket at Paw Ways to donate
• Drop it into our donation bin at Paw Ways

🥣 Food Drive
• Purchase any pet food item in-store
• Drop it into our donation bin at Paw Ways

At Paw Ways, you can be part of making a real difference.

All food and blanket donations will be shared between these wonderful organisations:
• Woodrock Animal Rescue
• Puppy & Kitten Haven
• A New Hope Dog Rescue
• Sandton SPCA

🐶🐱 Together, we can support the people who dedicate their lives to caring for animals in need.
