IN ITALY, SOME OF THE KINDNESS YOU'LL FIND IS HIDDEN UNDER A CITY BENCH🐈

Beneath the noise of busy streets, tiny shelters are quietly giving stray cats something they desperately need: a safe place to rest.

Tucked underneath city benches, these little wooden homes are made with dry cushions and thoughtful details like mosquito protection, creating a warm and sheltered corner for cats who spend their days searching for food and their nights trying to stay safe.

No big announcement.

No recognition.

Just someone deciding that these forgotten animals deserve a little comfort, too.

And maybe that's what makes it so beautiful.

Kindness doesn't always look like something grand.

Sometimes, it's a tiny shelter beneath a bench.

A dry cushion on a rainy night.

A safe place for a frightened cat to close its eyes.

Small acts of compassion can make an enormous difference to a life that has never had much.

Because when we care for the smallest and most vulnerable among us, we don't just make our cities better.

We make the world a little kinder. ❤️🐾

One shelter.

One cat.

One small act of kindness at a time.

The pile of leaves you're about to bag is the missing half of your compost. All summer, most backyard piles get kitchen scraps and grass clippings, the wet, nitrogen-rich greens. What they lack is carbon, and dry fall leaves are some of the best brown material there is. Penn State Extension's recipe works out to roughly 3 parts browns to 1 part greens by volume: 6 inches of leaves, 2 inches of greens, a couple of inches of soil, repeated. Run the leaves over with the mower first. Shredded pieces give the microbes far more surface to work on, and they break down faster than whole leaves. Keep the pile about as damp as a wrung-out sponge and at least 3 feet on each side, and the center can reach 140 to 160°F. That heat is microbes at work, and above 140°F most w**d seeds and disease organisms die. The honest caveat: a pile built in November slows down once hard cold sets in, and a typical pile still needs about 3 to 4 months of active weather to finish. It picks back up in spring with the work already started. Bag fewer leaves. Your compost has been waiting for them. [KSNGI]
