What is Rabies?
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals including dogs ,cats, wildlife and humans.💉
The virus is mainly spread through the saliva of an infected animal ,usually through a bite .lt can also enter the body through scratches or contact with saliva on broken skin or mucous membranes.
Rabies is a Zoonotic Disease
🐾This means rabies can be transmitted from animals to people.
Once clinical signs appear ,rabies is almost always fatal .However ,rabies can be prevented through timely vaccination and urgent medical treatment after exposure.
🇿🇦Rabies remains a public health concern in South Africa, with infections occurring in domestic animals and wildlife .Dogs remain an important source of human rabies exposure in many areas.🐾
