The Brakpan SPCA is currently facing a serious outbreak of Feline Panleukopenia (FPV). This virus is highly contagious and can be fatal. To protect our community and the animals in our care, we have made the difficult decision to CLOSE our cattery to the public effective immediately.

⚠️ 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗦:

🚷𝐍𝐨 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: Adoptions and general viewing are suspended to prevent the virus from being carried out of the facility on shoes or clothing.

✅𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬: We will NEVER turn away an animal in need, but all incoming cats will undergo strict health screenings.

🆘 𝗪𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣: 𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗢 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬 🆘
To eradicate this "nasty" virus and ensure the long-term health of our cats, we are urgently seeking assistance with the following:

🧼𝗙𝟭𝟬 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 & 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀: We need to increase our sanitation frequency. Extra F10 supplies and professional backpack sprayers are essential to reach every corner of the cattery.

🌞𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 (𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁): Sunlight is a natural disinfectant and vital for a cat's immune system. We are looking to replace every second roof sheeting panel with clear sheeting. This will help the kennels dry faster after cleaning and provide the Vitamin D and warmth our cats need to stay strong.

💉𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘: Ensure your cat’s FVRCP vaccinations are up to date. This is the only 100% effective defense.

🏠𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗢𝗢𝗥𝗦: Keep cats inside to avoid contact with infected roaming animals.

🧴𝗛𝗬𝗚𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗘: FPV can live in the environment for up to a year. Use a bleach solution (1:32) or F10 to clean your home surfaces.
