She doesn't just talk about pan-African planning. She lives it.

We are proud to announce Ms. Taboka Malwapeng as a panelist at the 3rd Edition of — taking place this Tuesday, 16 June 2026 (Youth Day) at Courtyard Hotel Rosebank, Johannesburg.

Taboka is a Motswana urban planner with triple professional registration — PITP | RTPI | CAP — and currently serves as a Non-Executive Board Member of the Special Economic Zone Authority of Botswana (SEZA), one of the continent's most strategically positioned institutions in the context of and .

She will be tackling the question that South African planners need to sit with:
"What does it actually look like — practically, institutionally, and commercially — for a planner to build and operate beyond their home country's borders?"

This is the track. No theory. No slides. Just a practitioner who has positioned herself at the intersection of planning, governance, and cross-border development — and is willing to be honest about what it takes.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first training of the year, “Ignite the Leader Within.”
We unpacked the fundamentals of leadership — what it truly is, different leadership styles and how to apply them, the power of emotional intelligence, and how to lead beyond hierarchy.
Special thanks to Mr. Yamkela- D (SME CEOs Group) for sharing practical insights on leading beyond title, emphasizing clarity as the foundation of leadership. Key reminders: a diary and pen are a leader’s first tools, followed by a strong network and community. And biographies often teach more than theory alone.
📅 Our next session is on 1 May. Stay connected via our website and social media.
Let’s keep igniting the leader within. 🔥

The recent comments by Cyril Ramaphosa during visits to should not offend the planning profession—they should challenge .
South Africa does not only face a capacity issue in town planning; it faces a structural and directional one. Our system remains largely , while , , , and are still weakly embedded in many municipal By-laws and land-use schemes.

Planning practice has too often been reduced to compliance and approval management. What we need more of are hashtag —professionals who go beyond enforcement to actively propose innovation in alignment with global frameworks emerging from , , and finance agendas.
City of Cape Town stands apart not because it has more planners, but because it has stronger institutional coordination and a clearer focus on climate resilience. Other BRICS cities show similar patterns: follows innovation, not process alone.
The future of planning in South Africa lies in prevention over reaction, innovation over status quo management, and empowering planners as true agents of change.

Our deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the recent floods. These events remind us that planning is ultimately about human safety and dignity.

Climate-resilient housing is designed to withstand climate shocks like floods, heatwaves, storms, and droughts — while remaining safe, affordable, and livable, especially for the most vulnerable communities.

🏠 It’s not just about stronger buildings.
Climate-resilient homes:
✔️ Use local, low-carbon and durable materials
✔️ Are designed for local climate risks (flood-safe foundations, heat-responsive design, ventilation)
✔️ Are connected to resilient infrastructure (water, energy, drainage)
✔️ Protect livelihoods and health — not just walls and roofs

🚀 How do we build & scale climate-resilient housing?

1️⃣ Plan with communities, not for them
2️⃣ Build climate resilience into policy & codes
3️⃣ Prioritize affordability & inclusion
4️⃣ Use nature-based and low-cost solutions
5️⃣ Scale through systems, not pilots - link housing to national climate plans, finance mechanisms, and citywide strategies.

Climate-resilient housing is a climate solution, a social justice issue, and an economic investment — all at once.
