Two Pieter-Stephs walked into a pet store... only one of them tried to eat the display. 😂 We love every customer who walks through our door — on two legs or four. 🐾

"It's just the cold" is one of the most common things I hear in winter consultations.

And sometimes — yes, it is just the cold.
But I've also heard it said about a dog with early hip dysplasia.

About a cat that turned out to have a kidney issue affecting her body temperature regulation.
About a rabbit that was actually critically ill.

The cold is real. It does affect animals.
But "it's just the cold" can also be the reason a problem gets six more weeks to grow before anyone acts on it.
If something feels off — your gut is picking up on something.

Trust that.
Small signs matter. Trust yours. 🐾

Saying goodbye is never easy 🤍

This week we said farewell to Jené, our Patient Care Assistant, who has been part of the CapeCross family since 2020.

If there was ever an animal needing comfort, there was a good chance you’d find them waking up safely in Jené’s arms 🐾

We are incredibly grateful for the care, compassion, and dedication she brought to our team over the years.

As she starts her exciting new chapter in the land down under, we wish her nothing but happiness and success on the journey ahead. We can’t wait to see you flourish in Australia 🇦🇺

See yah later, mate 🐨🏏🤍

There’s a moment in consults that happens quite often.

An owner will say,
“He’s just developed this bad habit…”

But when I look closer, it’s rarely just a habit.

A dog that won’t stop licking often has discomfort somewhere.
A dog that suddenly becomes destructive is often overwhelmed, not disobedient.

From where I sit, behaviour is one of the first ways the body speaks.

And when we slow down enough to ask why,
we often find something we would have otherwise missed.

When a pet presents with a sudden change in behaviour,
our first question isn’t “how do we stop this?”

It’s “what might be driving this?”

Excessive licking, vocalisation, withdrawal, or restlessness
can all be linked to underlying discomfort, stress, or medical factors.

Behaviour is often the outward expression
of something internal.

Which is why we approach it carefully —
not just as something to correct,
but something to understand.

This young unneutered male cat was brought in to us this morning after being spotted around Wild Plum Crescent over the past few days. He is very friendly and appears to be someone’s pet 🤍

If this is your cat or you recognise him, please contact us.
