An Important Update on Our Oat Hay Range 🌾 (And What’s Fresh on the Floor!)

At That Bunny Farm, we always aim to keep things 100% transparent with our bunny family! 🐰✨

We’ve made the decision to temporarily pause and hold back all of our Oat Hay products. Our current batch of oat hay was visited by some uninvited tiny guests: pantry/cupboard moths (Plodia interpunctella).

To ensure you only receive top-tier, beautiful quality feeds from us, we’ve pulled the entire stock off the shop floor while we restock fresh supplies!

💡 Quick Bunny Parent FAQs: What You Need to Know

Are cupboard moths dangerous to my pet?

Not at all! Cupboard moths and their larvae are completely harmless and non-toxic to rabbits, guinea pigs, and humans. They don't carry diseases or pose any health risk to your pets.

What causes them?

Pantry moths are naturally drawn to sweet, whole grains, seeds, and cereal crops—making raw, untreated oat seed heads their absolute favorite cozy spot! Because we don't treat our natural forage with harsh chemical pesticides, seasonal moth activity can occasionally happen when temperatures warm up.

What should I do if I find one at home?

If you only see a couple of moths or light webbing and want to salvage the bag:

Freeze It: Place the hay bag in the freezer for 48 to 72 hours. Extreme cold kills all adult moths, larvae, and eggs, rendering the hay completely safe and bug-free.

Store in Airtight Containers: After freezing, move the hay into a sealed plastic bin or glass container to prevent any outside moths from getting back in.

🌧️ Quick Update from the Workshop 🌧️

Due to the heavy rain across KZN, our workshop is currently flooded and production has come to a temporary halt. I wasn't able to work yesterday, and with the weather continuing today, things are completely on hold for a moment while we wait for everything to dry out.

The good news: All of our lovely rescued bunnies are warm, dry, safe, and cozy! 🐰✨

Order Status: Because our hay products and materials are damp from the humidity and water, we cannot pack or ship them until they are 100% dry and up to standard. We are monitoring the weather closely and will get your orders processed and sent out the second conditions clear up.

Thank you all so much for your patience, understanding, and ongoing support while we dry out! Stay safe and dry out there! ❤️

Rabbits love to dig, but reaching for a bag of play sand or garden soil for a DIY dig box is a recipe for trouble! 🚫🐰

Standard sand and treated soils present serious health risks for your buns:

❌ Respiratory Risks: Fine silica dust and airborne particles irritate delicate bunny airways, triggering sneezing, eye discharge, and lung infections.

❌ Gut Blockages: Fine grains ingested during grooming or nibbling build up in the gut, causing life-threatening intestinal impaction.

❌ Chemical Exposure: Garden soils often contain hidden fertilizers, pesticides, or mold spores.

The Safe Solution? A Dedicated Forage Dig Box! 🌾✨

Skip the dirt entirely! You can easily satisfy your rabbit’s natural digging instinct with zero risk using simple, safe items:

📦 A Cardboard or Wooden Base: Deep enough to contain the mess while they dig.

📜 Paper Shreds: Shredded plain brown packing paper or paper bedding pellets for texture.

🌿 Hay & Forage Blend: Layer generous handfuls of our Soothing Meadow Medley—a calming mix of Eragrostis, Oat Hay, and chamomile flowers, rosehip nibbles and some of our awesome dehydrated treats - so digging turns into a rewarding, gut-healthy foraging game!
