Dogs that scratch and kick the ground after urinating or defecating are leaving a visual mark alongside the scent, a behavior researchers link to dominance and high confidence. The kicking spreads pheromones from glands between the paw pads over a wider area, amplifying the chemical message and essentially making the "I was here" signal louder.

Studies on dog behavior found this is more common in dominant, high-confidence dogs regardless of size. A tiny dog furiously kicking up grass is not being dramatic. It is being very sure of itself.

Old wives' tale - improve animal welfare in Hogsback

There's no truth to the idea that a female should have at least one litter before being sterilised. This is actually a myth; research has shown that there's no health benefit to waiting for a pregnancy before sterilising, and it really depends on their age.

Allowing your dog or other pets to have a litter can sometimes lead to health issues like uterine infections and mammary cancer. Spaying her before she has puppies is a great way to reduce these risks, prevent unwanted litters, and reduce the risk of pets becoming homeless.

It also helps minimise roaming, marking, and aggression, making the animals much easier to manage.
Let’s keep the animals on the mountain healthy and don't listen to old wives' tales!
