Hoedspruit, South Africa’s wildlife haven, is surrounded by impoverished, rural communities, that have no access to government veterinary facilities for domestic animals. Since 2016, HALO (Hoedspruit AnimaL Outreach) has worked together with the local community leaders to improve the mental and physical health of domestic animals. Seven communities, The Willows, LeBoeng, Moraba, The Oaks, Tswenyan

With 23 newborn pups alone in our camp, our washing machine is supposed to make overtime but instead it decided to trip on the earth leakage. We urgently need help from an electrician to sort it out. Hoedspruit, can you work your magic and help us back up and get laundry done to keep puppies clean and safe?

Bruno didn’t waste any time after she got dumped at our camp…. She gave birth to 10 pups.

HALO is now taking care of 23(!) pups under 5 weeks that all need a home…. So please, please, please open your heart and home by giving them a chance to live and find loving homes. Share our posts for adoptions far and wide if you can’t adopt…

The worst part of our job is not the dogs, it’s their owners….

A horrible owner literally dumped poor Bruno at our camp for being in trouble (she got pregnant was the trouble) and the owner not only had the audacity to ask for a male in return, he refused to take Bruno back after her steri and when we said we couldn’t take her as our camp is full he just said he would dump her somewhere.

We have the owners details and will follow up with the chief on this complete unacceptable behaviour and he is blacklisted from ever getting a dog from us. We have taken Bruno in and she will hopefully find a loving home soon….

Our little ones are real champs, not even 3 weeks old they managed to survive over a week without their mum. Africanis dogs truly are miracle dogs.

This morning they got a proper wash (my gosh, they were dirty!), they eat and drink like champs and are now warming up to the fireplace. They are still tiny, less than 200 grams…

In a week or 2 we are looking for foster homes so if you are able to help out for a bit, please do reach out to us!

Full bellies makes for sleepy content puppies. Thanks for your donations so far. 5 look really good, 2 pups are still a concern so they are taken into fostercare for just some extra TLC, warmth and monitoring….

While our team was out in Finale we heard of a litter of tiny pups left without a mom that passed away. As we arrived one pup was already busy dying so we didn’t hesitate to take all 7 remaining pups. As they are still tiny (less than 200 grams and have not developed teeth) they need to be on puppy milk which we just purchased at R400 and should last for a few more days.

Please can you help us pay for these pups and give them a fighting chance to grow up as healthy dogs?

This Mandela Day (18 July), we’re turning compassion into action and we need YOU to be part of it.

In honour of the 67 years that Nelson Mandela dedicated to making the world a better place, this Mandela Day HALO launches a “67 for Change” Steri Drive.

🐶 Our goal?

To spay/ neuter 67 dogs in our care and the communities we support.
Every dog spayed/ neutered means:
✔️ A dog's life uplifted
✔️ A family supported
✔️ A small step toward a kinder, healthier community with less unwanted litters

The dogs in these communities rely entirely on us and with your support, 67 dogs will live a happier and healthier life!
