🐴 Do you know what’s going on inside your horse?
When it comes to worms, guessing isn’t always the best approach. A Faecal Egg Count (FEC) can help you understand your horse’s parasite burden and make more informed decisions about deworming.
A FEC examines a manure sample to estimate the number of certain parasite eggs being shed by your horse. It can help identify horses with higher egg counts, guide targeted deworming and reduce unnecessary treatment — an important part of slowing the development of dewormer resistance.
Swipe through our carousel to learn:
• What a Faecal Egg Count is
• Why it’s useful
• When it may be recommended
• What the results can — and can’t — tell you
Good parasite management isn’t just about deworming regularly. It’s about deworming strategically.

How well do you know your horse’s worms?

Equine parasites aren’t all the same. Small and large strongyles, ascarids, tapeworms, pinworms and bots can affect horses in different ways - and understanding what you’re dealing with is an important part of responsible parasite management.

Swipe through our KNOW YOUR WORMS carousel for a quick introduction to some of the common parasites horse owners should be aware of.

Good parasite control isn’t simply about deworming on a fixed calendar. Your horse’s age, management, grazing environment, parasite burden and previous treatments can all play a role in determining an appropriate programme.

Need to deworm? The Pega Range of equine dewormers is available at Assagay Feeds, with selected products currently on special until the end of September.

For advice specific to your horse and parasite-control programme, speak to your veterinarian.
