We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the RU Pawsitive group of Rhodes post graduate accounting students to our clinic.

These students have been tasked with organising events to raise funds for a chosen entity as part of their studies. Each group does all of the fundraising through organising of events, then the accounting and finally audits the other group’s work.

We are extremely grateful to have been chosen as one of the recipients for this year’s project. Any funds raised will be used for sterilisations of dogs and cats and any goods received are being used for our rescue dogs/cats or distributed to needy homes.

Our group have organised a very successful and enjoyable karaoke night and did a collection outside of PnP. Thank you to everyone who has supported their work so far 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Nugget - our handsome, high-energy, friendly natured rescued boy is looking for a forever home. He’s always up for an adventure and thrives on activity, whether it’s a run, a long walk, or exploring the outdoors by your side. If you’ve been looking for a dedicated running partner, he might just be your guy.

Nugget is particular about his canine companions – he’d do best as an only dog, or with a female friend of a similar size or larger. He isn’t suited to homes with small dogs or young children, as he can be strong and exuberant.

In the right environment, with structure, exercise, and understanding, Nugget will be a loyal and devoted sidekick ready for all your adventures.

The Post Graduate Diploma of Accountancy class at Rhodes University are once again raising funds for our clinic’s Patient Support Fund to assist cover veterinary costs and care of our rescue animals and help pet owners who cannot afford veterinary care.

The first fundraising event kicks off tonight at 7pm - details on the poster below! 🤩🎉

PS Our vet Dr Amy will be there but will not be singing! 🤪😅🤣

𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 🤩🎉

This last week we celebrated not one, not two but five incredible adoptions through our clinic! 😁🙌🏻

Although we don’t always network our outreach work, in between our busy clinic schedule, we care for numerous rescue animals and coordinate their adoption applications when they are ready for forever homes. This is simply our passion project and one of the ways we give back to our community! 🥹

We bid very fond farewells to Spud who was picked up all alone on the Bedford Road crawling in fleas and ticks and is now living the dream in his new home, Toto who was found in terrible condition as a pup and nursed by us back to health and then patiently waited for the perfect forever home which he has now found, and our three bottle fed ginger sisters two of which were able to stay together! 😁

Thank you to Amina, one of our receptionists, for expertly bottle feeding this litter of kittens from two weeks of age and the Feral Cat Charity Bookshop for sponsoring their care! ♥️🐾

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗩𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗶! ♥️🐾

We are delighted to welcome Liandri van Vuuren to the Makana Vet team as our new receptionist! 😁

After matriculating from PJ Olivier, Liandri spent time working on a horse and cattle ranch in Idaho, USA. She returned to South Africa last year to pursue her passion for working with animals and within a veterinary environment.

Liandri is currently enrolled for a Diploma in Animal Health through UNISA, which will qualify her as an Animal Health Technician once completed.

We are confident that her genuine interest in animals and veterinary care, along with her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, will make her a wonderful addition to our team.

We look forward to introducing Liandri to each of our clients and their pets! 🐾

Sarah has been with our team for more than 3 years and has been a key part of our clinic’s growth. From shyly entering into her first job, she has since grown into an extremely capable, organised and friendly veterinary receptionist with a wealth of knowledge about our products and services.

We are very grateful for the care, kindness and dedication she has shown to both our patients and their owners over the years and we wish Sarah all the best in her new job and future endeavours.

Update: These two have been adopted! 🤩🎉

𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘃 ♥️🐾

These two 9 week old adorable kittens are looking for a forever home and are available for adoption! 🐈🐾

They arrived at our clinic at about 3 weeks old after being found hungry and alone with no mother in sight and were bottle fed by one of our receptionists, Amina. They are healthy, happy and eating well on their own so all ready for a forever home! 🤩

🧡 Maverick is shy and sensitive, happiest with his brother close by. With Goose at his side, he blossoms into a playful, cuddly little soul who just wants to feel safe.

💙 Goose is fearless and full of confidence — always ready for the next mission, the next game, the next adventure. He’s Maverick’s courage, his comfort, his wingman.

Since they are completely bonded, Goose and Mav must be adopted together.

This friendly intact male dog was found on Wednesday 28 Janauary in the MacGowan Street/Winsford Road area in Grahamstown/Makhanda.

He had a broken leash on as a collar at the time and is not microchipped.

He is currently at Makana Vet Clinic in Fitzroy Street.
