𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗻 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 💚🐾

We recently bid farewell to Lee-Anne and Michelle Cherry who have been long time employees/volunteers at Fairbairn Kennels.

Lee-Anne and Michelle’s mom, Margaret, very unexpectedly passed away in May this year and tragically on her way back from her mom’s funeral, Lee-Anne was in a serious car accident.

Lee-Anne was badly injured and spent over 2 months moving between three different hospitals. It was a long and gruelling ordeal but Lee-Anne has been incredibly strong and brave throughout and she remains committed to her physio and rehab gaining strength and improving her walking daily.

Sadly her injury has meant that Lee-Anne has been unable to work in the kennels since May and so her and Michelle recently moved to Mpumalanga to live with their brother and his family.

Lee-Anne and Michelle are both already very missed by the Fairbairn and Makana Vet teams as well as our clients.

Lee-Anne treated each of the dogs and cats she cared for with compassion as if they were her own pets and she was ably assisted by her sister, Michelle. Lee-Ann’s sweet and gentle nature was always well received by those entrusting their pets to our care.

Going forward, Akhona will continue in his role as our main kennel hand and will be assisted by our trainee, Aphiwe. We are also extremely grateful to Akhona for working many extra days and weekends while Lee-Anne was in hospital.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗽𝘆 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲! ♥️🐾

Snoopy was rescued by our Makana Vet team when out attending to an injured dog in our township community. Snoopy’s owner approached us asking if we’d take her away as she’d been stealing eggs from her owner’s chickens. We then discovered she’d been placed on a think, heavy chain as a result.

We attempted to discuss alternative options for Snoopy to coexist with the chickens and discovered she’d been living on a diet of potato peels only. We felt a simple diet change to something more dog appropriate with protein could potentially help alleviate the problem, but sadly her owner wouldn’t budge.

While owner retention is always our priority, we could see this was a happy, bouncy and super friendly dog and a life on a thick, short chain is something no dog should endure. To add to Snoopy’s troubles, she was also on heat and we knew if we didn’t take her with us, she’d be also raising puppies very soon.

We did what we had to and agreed to take Snoopy and care for her until we could find her another home.

Snoopy is a young adult and is simply lovely! This special little dog is so deserving of a forever home where she can be spoilt and allowed to enjoy all of the luxuries of life in a loving home. Imagine getting the opportunity to witness her experience all those joys for the first time! 🥹

Our rates are as follows and are inclusive of food, blankets and bedding.

Small Dogs (0-10kg) - R70 per day
Medium Dogs (10-20kg) - R75 per day
Large Dogs (20-40kg) - R80 per day
XLarge Dogs (40-60kg) - R85 per day
Giant Dogs (>60kg) - R90 per day
Cats - R55 per day

Did you know that the majority of our kennels at Fairbairn are heated with infrared lights ensuring that your pets are warm and toasty if they need to stay over during the colder months.

We charge only R10 extra per night to have your dog or cat in one of our heated kennels! 🐾

We are delighted to announce that veterinarian Dr Amy Jackson-Moss and emergency care practitioner/paramedic Louis Marais are the proud new owners of Fairbairn Kennels.

After dedicating several decades to growing the business and caring for hundreds of our town’s pets over the years, Len Kruiskamp has decided to take a step back from the boarding facility to spend more time with his family.

With a veterinarian and skilled health care practitioner at the helm of the facility, pet owners choosing to entrust their animals with the experienced team at Fairbairn can go away knowing that their four-legged family members will be well cared for and most importantly safe leaving little room for worrying!

Fairbairn Kennels is located on the magnificent Fairewood Nature Reserve on the R67 towards Port Alfred just mere kilometres from the Grahamstown/Makhanda CBD.
