A parked car can heat up incredibly quickly, even when the day doesn’t feel unbearably hot. For pets, that heat can become dangerous fast.

If you’re making a quick stop, rather take them with you where it’s safe to do so, or leave them comfortably at home. It’s simply not worth the risk.

Make sure they always have fresh water, a cool shady spot to rest, and try to keep walks to the cooler parts of the day. If the ground feels too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Keep an eye out for excessive panting, weakness or unusual tiredness — these can be signs your pet is struggling with the heat.
