🐴 The price tag on a horse…

There is a conversation we don’t always like having in the equestrian world.

The price of horses.

Because the reality is… for many people, owning the horse they dream of has become completely out of reach.

A good competition horse can now carry a price tag that is more than many people earn in a year. A talented young horse with potential can cost more than some people’s homes. And while we understand the years of breeding, training, producing and investing that go into these horses… we also cannot ignore that the dream is becoming unattainable for many.

And perhaps the hardest part is that the emotional value of a horse has never been linked to their purchase price.

Some of the most special partnerships are not built on the most expensive horses.

They are built on the horse someone took a chance on.
The horse that needed time.
The horse that wasn’t the obvious choice.
The horse that taught their person as much as they were taught.

Because at the end of the day, a price tag can tell you what someone paid for a horse.

It cannot tell you the size of the heart, the depth of the partnership, or the memories that will be created.

But we also need to be honest…

A sport where the entry point keeps climbing risks becoming a sport where only a few can participate.

Sometimes, the horse that changes your life is not the one you paid the most for.
It’s the one you were lucky enough to find.

The part of horse ownership nobody really talks about…

The daily routine. The endless checking. The little things that somehow become your responsibility 24/7.

Because owning horses isn’t just the pretty photos, the ribbons and the magical moments.

Some days you’re halfway through a conversation and suddenly notice one horse has lost a little weight.

Some days the mares are in season and apparently the entire yard has collectively decided that “sass” is the new discipline. 😂

Some days you’re tired, covered in mud, carrying buckets, checking feeds and wondering how this became your full-time unpaid job.

But then they nicker when you arrive.

And you remember… this is exactly why you do it. 🤎🐴

August has brought a little change of focus for us. 🤎

A little more flatwork. A little more dressage. A little more focus on the details that create strength, balance and understanding.

It has been a beautiful reminder that progress is rarely created in the big moments alone. It is created in all the quiet ones that come before.

The hours of schooling.
The patience through the difficult days.
The strengthening.
The lessons learnt.
The small improvements that nobody sees.

Then one day you look back and realise how far you have come.

The most exciting part of this journey is that sometimes the biggest changes happen quietly. A different feeling. A different understanding. A different level of connection.

And perhaps that is what makes the next chapter so exciting…

Not knowing exactly where it will lead, but knowing that the foundation has been built.

Something is shifting.

For now, we keep learning, keep listening, and keep building.

Dentist day at Reign Equestrian 🦷🐴

A performance horse is built from the details.

The big moments are easy to see — the training sessions, competitions and milestones. But often it is the small things behind the scenes that allow our horses to feel their best and give us their best.
Today was about one of those less glamorous, but equally important pieces of the puzzle: routine dental care.

A huge thank you to Monique from Happy Mouth Equine Dentistry for adding us to your travel schedule and for taking such incredible care of our horses for the last 3 years. We truly appreciate the consistency, knowledge and attention to detail you bring every visit.

All four horses had their mouths assessed and maintained. Nothing major — just a little “horse dentist magic” to keep everyone comfortable… although convincing Ana that this was a wellness day and not a personal inconvenience was probably the biggest challenge. 😅

Good horsemanship is not about waiting for problems to appear. It is about paying attention, staying curious and constantly improving.

A sound mind. A healthy body. A comfortable mouth. A horse that trusts us enough to give their best.

The details matter. 🤎
