We will be doing steirlisations every week and in the past 2 weeks we have managed to do 38.

Sterilisation is one of the most important tools in preventing animal cruelty, neglect, suffering, and unwanted litters. Rescue alone is not enough if we are not actively sterilising and reducing the cycle of suffering at its source. Because of your support, more animals will have a chance at a safer and healthier future.

We are so proud to announce that we have been able to sterilise 164 (and counting) doggies this year! BUT…

It’s the fifth month and we are not even half way to our target of sterilising 1200 dogs in 2026.

This means…

We only have a little more than 7 months left to reach 1000 more dogs and WE CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!

📢 sterilising only one dog can save the lives of 67000 unborn pups over 6years. Not to mention, all the other dogs already in shelters waiting for their own loving homes 🤍🐾

Your dog’s Steri day is coming up. Here’s what you need to know:

➡️ Firstly, what exactly is “Sterilization”?

It is a simple medical procedure performed by a vet while your dog is in a deep sleep (under anesthesia).

Females (Spaying): Removes the ovaries and uterus so she cannot have puppies.

Males (Neutering): Removes the testicles so he cannot father puppies.

➡️ Will my dog feel any pain?

No. Your dog is fully asleep during the surgery. After they wake up, they may be a bit sleepy for a day. Your vet may provide pain medication to ensure they stay comfortable as they heal.

➡️ How long is the recovery?

Most dogs are back to their normal selves within 7 to 10 days.

❗️The Golden Rule: Keep them calm and try to prevent them from jumping or running excessively for the first week.

❗️Keep it Clean: Don’t let your dog lick the stitches. If they try, we can provide a “cone” (the “collar of shame”) to protect them.

➡️ Will my dog’s personality change?

The Good News: They won’t lose their spirit!

The Positive Changes: They will stop wandering away from home, they will fight less with other dogs, and they won’t “mark” (urinate) inside your house as much.

➡️ Why is this better for my wallet?

One sterilization costs a fraction of what it costs to feed a litter of 8 puppies for two months. It also prevents Pyometra (a deadly womb infection) and TVT (cancer), which are incredibly expensive to treat later.

➡️ How do I prepare for my dog’s appointment?

Ensure that your pet is fasted for at least 12 hrs before its procedure. Here is a general guideline:
1. NO FOOD from 10PM the night prior to the procedure. An empty stomach is the safest for anaesthesia.
2. Water can be given until 6am on the morning of the procedure.

❗️Always double check and follow the guidance of your vet and welfare assisting with your pet.

Steri Squad here to make a difference. We see the value in sterilisation of our community animals- not only for their benefit, but also for our people’s benefit.

The math of one “whoops” litter is staggering. But here’s the good news: the “Ripple Effect” works both ways.

One unspayed female and her offspring can lead to 67,000 puppies in just six years. That’s not just a number- that’s a tidal wave of lives that our shelters simply don’t have the room for.
