A large Common Night Adder rescued and relocated at Beaconbay Life Hospital this morning!

I was called out to relocate this venomous snake after it was discovered in a pot plant, busy enjoying a frog for breakfast.

Despite its name, the Common Night Adder is often active during the day and is particularly fond of frogs.

The snake was safely relocated to a more suitable area, and the pot plant was returned unharmed.

A good reminder to always be aware of wildlife around your home and to contact an experienced snake handler rather than attempting to move a snake yourself.

๐Ÿšจ Another Water Monitor Mission Complete! ๐Ÿšจ

Weโ€™ve been getting a TON of calls lately from people all around East London who are convinced theyโ€™ve got โ€œsmall crocodilesโ€ in their yards ๐Ÿ˜‚ Itโ€™s almost always one of these beautiful Water Monitors!

This big boy decided to go on an adventure and ran straight into an outside room at an officeblock, getting himself completely trapped. We responded immediately, safely captured him with zero stress to the animal, but almost causing heart failure to the onlookers.

Mission accomplished! Watch the video below to see the happy release back into his natural habitat โ€” where he wonโ€™t be causing any more chaos for the locals, at least for a while ๐Ÿ˜‰

These guys are important to our ecosystem (theyโ€™re NOT crocodiles and theyโ€™re generally shy around humans), so please donโ€™t panic if you spot one โ€” just give us a shout!

Festive season surprise call-out!

A frightened lady reported a large snake in her yard โ€” photo sent, and it wasn't one of our usual suspects!

Turned out to be a feisty rat snake (non-venomous but surprisingly aggressive when cornered โ€” lots of striking and attitude! ๐Ÿ˜…).

These aren't indigenous to South Africa, so we couldn't relocate it as we normally do. Safely recovered and donated to The Venom Pit Snake Park East London for a good home.

Thanks for the assist, team โ€” and huge thanks to everyone who reports sightings! ๐Ÿ Keep 'em coming, we're on call 24/7.

๐Ÿšจ Snake Call-Out: Puff Adderโ€ฆ or Not? ๐Ÿ
We were called out to safely remove what was believed to be a Puff Adder, after the owners grew concerned for the safety of their dogs. Always a wise move โ€” when in doubt, keep your distance and call a professional.

Upon arrival, we quickly identified the snake as a Night Adder โ€” not as venomous as a Puff Adder, but still one to respect.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Whatโ€™s the difference?

Puff Adders are heavy-bodied, extremely venomous, and rely on camouflage. A bite can be fatal to pets or people without treatment.

Night Adders are slimmer, mildly venomous, and generally avoid confrontation. Their venom is less dangerous, and they have a very noticeable "V" on its head.

This particular Night Adder had just eaten โ€” you can see the bulge in its belly as we released it back into suitable habitat, far from human and pet activity.

๐Ÿ›‘ Remember: If you're unsure, donโ€™t touch.
๐Ÿ“ž Call us โ€” weโ€™re always ready to respond safely and responsibly.

๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿ Urgent Rescue Call-Out: Injured Spotted Eagle Owl ๏ฟฝ๐Ÿ’”

Earlier this week I was called out to assist a beautiful Spotted Eagle Owl who had suffered a broken wing. Thanks to the swift action of a concerned community member, the owl was safely transported for urgent care.

A HUGE thank you to Wild Coast Vet and Wild Voices SA for their expert attention and compassion in treating this magnificent bird. Your support is invaluable in giving wildlife a second chance! ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ’™

Today ended on a happy note with this little guy being released uninjured. He flew into a window which knocked him unconscious. However a quick check out ensured that he had no broken bones and could head off on his merry way.

This is our most recent patient. Found very weak and disoriented. Possible poisoning. I think he may have been found in time. Hopefully just a short stay then back on his way.
