🐴 A Friendly Reminder Before Your Clipping Appointment 🐴

A clean horse is a happy horse.

To ensure your horse receives the best possible clip, all horses must arrive clean, freshly bathed, and completely dry before their appointment.

Lately, I have been presented with horses that are dirty or still wet, with the expectation that I can still achieve a beautiful, professional finish. Unfortunately, that simply isn't possible.

A quality clip starts with a clean coat. If the coat is dirty, greasy, or wet, the end result will be compromised, regardless of the skill or equipment used.

Please note: Dirty or wet horses will not be clipped and the appointment slot will be forfeited. Your horse will then need to be rebooked into my next available opening.

This policy is not only about protecting my equipment, but also about your horse's comfort and welfare.

Dirt, grease, sweat, and moisture cause clipper blades to drag and pull through the coat, and worse, can result in horses getting nicked, making the clipping experience uncomfortable and unpleasant for the horse and for me.

A few common misconceptions:
• A horse that has simply been hosed down is not considered bathed.
• A horse bathed several days ago is unlikely to still be clean enough for clipping.
• A thorough groom is helpful, but it does not replace bathing.
• Coat shine products and pre-clip sprays do not clean the coat.
• Washing a horse shortly before I arrive does not allow enough drying time, particularly in cooler weather or with thicker coats.

After many years of clipping, I can easily tell the difference between a truly clean horse and one that only appears clean on the surface. Dirt, grease, dead skin cells, and sweat build up at the base of the coat against the skin, where brushing alone will not remove them.

✅ For the best results, please:
• Shampoo twice
• Use warm water if possible
• Dont forget the legs, belly, and top of the quarters
• Allow at least 3 hours drying time (longer in cooler weather)
• Keep your horse stabled or clean after bathing to prevent rolling

There is simply no substitute for a proper bath and a good scrub. A clean horse allows me to deliver the quality finish your horse deserves while ensuring the clipping experience is comfortable, efficient, and stress-free for everyone involved.

There is something so special about seeing the horses you have worked with succeeding in the ring. All these children, proudly clipped by me.

Disclaimer: Plaiting and photography is not mine. Only the clip.

So proud of these 2. Our first clip experience together was not ideal due to circumstances out of everyones control. 3 clips later and we are past "hero" stage. Both fluffy children were extremely well behaved and completely relaxed. Yay yay yay. Experiences like this make my heart burst with pride and extreme happiness.

A huge shout out to their mum for the continuous patience, the endless love and for listening to them. 💗💝

Gorgeous Pumpkin horse. How's that shine. Pumpkin got a hotcloth session after his clip.

Hot clothing is the ideal way to remove loose hairs and lift diet and clipper oil off the coat. Works wonders every time!

Gorgeous boy. Looking great after his very first clip ever.

I learnt something new the other day or should I say, I was swiftly given a reminder🐴

I feel a little silly because… “duh” — of course this makes sense.

For the first time in my clipping years, I experienced a horse developing stress hives, (also known as stress urticaria).

I pooped myself, ran a million scenarios through my head, did my blades get to hot, did I press to hard, have I changed my oil......

Then the owner politely says to me "its stress hives". I literally had a monent of "duh"... 🤦🏻‍♀️

He is an incredibly sensitive boy, and I clipped him in the morning for the first time. Normally, I clip him in the afternoon once he’s gone out, settled into his day, and followed his usual routine.

The moment I arrived, I could already tell he was anxious. He’d had his breakfast, but all his neighbours were heading out while he stayed behind — completely out of routine for him.

Even though he behaved impeccably during his clip, his stress levels were clearly high enough to trigger a histamine release, causing an array of raised bumps and welts across his body.

I felt terrible for the poor boy, although his owner and groom were absolutely wonderful and understanding about it.

It was such a good reminder that horses really do feel stress and anxiety physically, just like we do. Things like changes in routine, travel, separation, pressure, or unfamiliar situations can have a genuine effect on them.

Safe to say, we’ll definitely be sticking to his normal afternoon clipping routine from now on. With a whole new level of kisses and cuddles.💛

Our horses are constantly teaching us — sometimes in ways we least expect.
