FROM A SIMPLE CLEANUP TO A FULL CATIO RECONSTRUCTION (swipe to the end for the original catio) 🛠️
What started as a straightforward cleanup quickly turned into a much bigger project! A few weeks ago, we got to work refurbishing this catio, and once we got into it, we realised it needed more than just a little TLC.
We ended up taking the entire structure apart and rebuilding it with durability, drainage and long-term protection in mind. Here’s what we did:
🔨 A stronger frame – We rebuilt the structure with a sturdier frame and upgraded to thicker, more durable mesh for added strength and longevity.
💧 Improved drainage – We raised the structure off the ground to allow water to drain freely underneath and help prevent moisture from damaging the timber.
🪵 Wood protection – We stained and sealed the wood, giving it a fresh, finished look while helping protect it against the elements.
🪨 A gravel foundation – We added gravel beneath the timber to reduce direct contact with damp soil and help prevent moisture-related wood damage.
☀️ Clear roofing – We installed clear IBR roof sheeting to provide shelter from the elements while still allowing natural sunlight to filter through.
The result? A stronger, more weather-resistant catio that’s built to last and gives its feline residents a safer, more comfortable space to enjoy. 🐈
Sometimes, a refurbishment turns into a complete rebuild - and we’re all for doing it properly the first time!
