🎆Fireworks Season Is Back!🎆
Diwali and Guy Fawkes are approaching and while we are making plans to celebrate we also need to prepare for our four-legged friends. Loud noises can cause distress and fear for our animals so here are a few tips to help make them more comfortable during this time:

✅Wraps and Thunder Jackets help soothe your pet by applying gentle pressure to the body
✅Give your pet a safe place to hide where they feel secure and can’t hurt themselves
✅Calming medications and sprays (Calmeze, Anxitane, Calmfocus) are over the counter medications which helps relieve stress and anxiety in pets
✅Some pets need stronger, scheduled medication to help them through this time -
❗️These medications can only be dispensed by a veterinarian after a health check of the animal which should be done approximately two weeks before the day of the fireworks❗️
Any medication, scheduled or over the counter, should be started at least a week before the fireworks to allow the medication to work at full effect.

🚔🐕‍🦺Metro K9 Handlers Workshp🐕‍🦺🚔
Last week we proudly hosted our Metro Dog Unit Handlers for a workshop on Primary Canine Health Care to ensure the handlers are prepared to care for their K9 partners in any situation. Dr Mangera demonstrated (with the help of professional demo dog Lacey😎) how to perform routine body checks ✅, bandage wounds🩹, muzzle training 😁, and more! The handlers were then guided through what to do if their dog was bitten by a venomous snake and the identification of common venomous snakes in Durban🐍.
We are lucky to have amazing clients who brought their dogs along for the day so handlers could practice what they learned. Each handler was given a K9 First Aid Kit, Hills I/D can and a poster of Common Snakes of Durban to keep in their cars in case of emergencies.
We would like to say a big thank you to:
🔵 dotsure.co.za Pet Insurance for sponsoring the K9 First Aid Kits and to Jordan for joining us on the day🚨
🔵 Hill’s Pet Nutrition for sponsoring the Hills I/D cans😋
🔵 African Snakebite Institute for the venomous snake infographics and poster🐍
🔵 Bluff Golf Course for sponsoring the venue⛳
🔵 and to our amazing demo dogs 🐾Lacey, 🐾Katinka, 🐾Phoebe & 🐾Sasha (and their people😉) for being the most professional demo dogs we could have asked for!
