Group & Private Class:
Whether you opt for group or private classes, our goal is to assist handlers in raising and training happy, healthy and well adjusted dogs from puppy stages through adulthood. We use a dog’s natural drives and instincts to gain the best results with our training methods which include the lure and reward, clicker and drive training. We train happy, confident, social dogs who

are trusted and valued members of the community. We strive to build strong owner-dog relationships based on co-operation, trust and understanding. Innovative, fun dog training classes with professional, qualified trainers and behaviourists are run regularly, where you and your dog can learn and practice these skills in a supportive, safe and fun environment. All classes include obedience skills training, trick training, obstacle course navigation, interactive games, scent detection, Parkour, Treibball, body awareness and basic Search & Rescue training. Group classes are ideal for adolescent dogs that have completed puppy class or dogs that have been in a training program before. Private classes cater to those requiring individual attention or need guidance and assistance on some more challenging behaviours. Behaviour consultations:
Consultations can be booked on a daily basis. These consultations aim to assist handlers and dogs in need of theory, management, training, behaviour adjustment training or desensitisation and who are experiencing severe challenges with their dog. Day Care:
Day care is open from Monday - Friday 8am - 17h00. We accommodate social dogs that are content in a home environment and that enjoys the company of other like minded, happy, social dogs. Boarding:
Canine Planet boarding is a home away from home. We are owner managed and operated offering the best possible stay and personal attention for your dog. Our operation focuses on ensuring that your dog has a fun-filled, relaxing holiday in a calm and tranquil environment. Dogs are part of the daily activities and have 3 spacious and secure play and rest areas. We match dogs with similar energies and play styles for an enjoyable, stress free stay. More Than Training. A Relationship. 🐾

There are many different approaches to dog training, but at Canine Planet, there are a few things we never want to lose sight of.

Patience. Understanding. Knowledge. Compassion. Kindness.

Because behind every behaviour is a dog.

A dog with a personality. A history. Emotions. Strengths. Challenges. A nervous system. And a relationship with their human that we have the privilege of helping to shape.

Sometimes progress is a beautifully executed exercise.

Sometimes it is a nervous dog finding a little more confidence.

Sometimes it is a handler learning to see their dog differently.

And sometimes progress simply means giving the dog the time and space they need.

We don't strive to create perfect dogs.

We strive to create dogs who understand, handlers who communicate, and relationships built on trust.

That's what good training means to us. ❤️🐾

LOOK AT HER NOW. 🐾❤️

The change in Ferah has been amazing to watch.

We waited. We gave her the opportunity to work things out in her own time. We placed no pressure on her and didn't ask for more than she was emotionally ready to give.

Instead, we worked on helping her nervous system settle. We created space for her to feel safe, to process her environment, and, slowly, to discover that engaging with her handler could actually be a really good thing.

And now…

Tail wags. 🥹
Engagement.
Focus.
A willingness to work.
Offering behaviours.
Choosing her handler.
Asking to work.

This is why we don't believe dogs need more pressure, more corrections, or more demands.

Sometimes, they need time.

Sometimes they need us to slow down enough to see what they are actually telling us.

And sometimes, when we give a dog the opportunity to feel safe and successful, the dog we've been waiting to see was there all along.

Real progress is happening here. ❤️🐾

WHEN THE FIRST RAINS OF THE SEASON FALL… 🌧️🐾

Somewhere between the first drops hitting the ground and the smell of rain in the air, Rosy discovered something very important…

Rain is FUN. ❤️

Standing on her hind legs, catching raindrops, completely absorbed in the moment.

And maybe animals have something to teach us about enjoying nature.

They don't need to know how much rain is coming. They don't worry about whether they're doing it right. They don't need to turn it into something productive. They simply experience it.

The rain falls.
The world smells different.
The air changes.
And suddenly, there is something wonderful to explore.

Maybe we could do a little more of that too.

Stop. Look around. Feel the first drops of rain. Listen to the wind. Watch the clouds. Notice the smell of wet earth. Find joy in the little things we usually walk straight past.

Rosy certainly did. 🥰

And judging by the fun she's having, she's got absolutely no intention of missing a single raindrop. 😂🌧️🐾

The learning process

Michaela & Diesel are working on paw targeting, and this video shows exactly what learning looks like.

There are successful attempts.
There are attempts that are almost there. And there are moments where Diesel is still figuring out what we're asking.

We don't strive for perfection. We strive for a dog who enjoys learning.

For this exercise, we used the lure and reward method. The lure helps guide Diesel towards the behaviour we want, and when he makes the right choice, he gets rewarded. As he begins to understand the game, the lure can gradually be reduced and the behaviour becomes something he offers more independently.

So why teach paw targeting?

Because deliberately placing a paw on a target helps develop body awareness, coordination and conscious control of movement. It can also become a foundation for other exercises and behaviours.

But there's something else that's important:

It teaches the dog to participate in the learning process. Diesel gets to try, think, experiment and discover what earns the reward.

Learning should be enjoyable.

We don't need to rush a dog towards the finished behaviour. We can give them the time and support they need to understand.

At Canine Planet, we don't want a dog that is simply performing because we've made them.

We want a dog that is engaged, confident, having fun and choosing to participate. ❤️

Because sometimes the best part of training isn't the finished behaviour.

It's watching the dog discover how to get there. 🐾

LIKE TOM & JERRY… BUT WITH MORE FUR 🐾😂

If Tom & Jerry were dogs, I think we'd have Gambit & Sareltjie. 😂

A Rottweiler and a Chihuahua.

They've been friends for years, despite being about as unlikely a pair as you could imagine.

They chase each other.
They annoy each other.
Sareltjie occasionally reminds Gambit who's had enough. 😂
And somehow, through it all, they remain the best of pals.

Gambit could probably accidentally step over Sareltjie without noticing him…

…but he knows better than to underestimate his little friend. 😏

There's something pretty special about friendships like this.

Different size.
Different personality.
Different everything.

And yet somehow…

they just get each other. ❤️🐾

FREE RUNNING. Dogs need opportunities to just be dogs.

To run.
To explore.
To sniff.
To play.
To move their bodies freely.
To make choices and experience their environment without being constantly directed by us.

Free running can be incredibly valuable for a dog’s physical well-being, mental stimulation, and emotional balance.

But freedom comes with responsibility.

Being off lead is a privilege that has to be earned.

An off-lead dog needs a reliable recall. They need to understand that coming back to their handler is always worthwhile — even when the environment is exciting.

And the handler needs to know their dog well enough to recognise when off-lead freedom is appropriate and when it isn't.

Not every dog is ready for it.
Not every environment is suitable.
And freedom should never come at the expense of another dog, person or the dog's own safety.

The goal isn't simply to have a dog that can run away from you.

It's to have a dog that can enjoy freedom and still choose to come back to you. ❤️

Freedom + recall + responsibility = a dog who can safely enjoy being a dog.

Ferah — From Overwhelmed to Engaged 🐾❤️

Ferah started her training journey shortly after Fallon, and when she first came to us, the world around her was simply more rewarding than her handler.

She had very little frustration tolerance or impulse control. When something was too difficult, she would shut down or avoid the interaction rather than attempt it. She also had no real recall.

So we didn't rush her.

We worked at Ferah's pace, gradually building her confidence and creating successful experiences without putting her under unnecessary pressure.

But this progress isn't just Ferah's.

Althea has been an important part of this journey.

She has had to learn how to read Ferah, recognise when she is mentally available for learning, understand when something is too difficult and, just as importantly, know when to step back and give her space.

Instead of trying to push Ferah through situations she wasn't ready for, Althea has learned to work with her — building communication, trust and engagement along the way.

And the result has been beautiful to watch. ❤️

Fast forward a few months and Ferah now has a solid recall foundation. Her frustration tolerance and impulse control have improved significantly, and she is increasingly choosing to engage with Althea rather than being completely absorbed by the environment.

We've also put management protocols in place at home and introduced appropriate mental stimulation to help meet her needs. Ferah is a high-drive dog, and setting her up for success in everyday life is just as important as what happens during a training session.

This is what I love about training.

The dog changes. The handler changes. And somewhere along the way, they learn to understand each other.

Ferah is still learning, but she's no longer overwhelmed by the learning process.

She's becoming more confident, more connected and, most importantly, she's beginning to enjoy working with her person. 🐾❤️

Out in the Field 🐾🌿

This weekend’s group class took us out into the field for a change of scenery and some really lovely work from the dogs and their handlers.

We worked on recalls, building responsiveness and connection over distance, as well as targeting and handler communication.

There’s something special about watching a group of dogs become more confident, focused and connected with their people while working in a big, open environment.

A really good session all round. ❤️🐾
